GLENS FALLS, N.Y. » A magnitude 3.1 earthquake struck an area near the upstate New York city of

Glens Falls on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The earthquake hit at 6:43 a.m. and was centered on a spot just southwest of the village of South Glens Falls.

“It sounded and felt like something exploded,” Glens Falls resident Jordan Neville said on Wednesday morning.

“Yeah, that earthquake was crazy,” added Jess Berglund, who lives in the same South Glens Falls residence. “It sounded and felt like a snow plow crashed into our house. My cat freaked out.”

Danielle Longinetti, who lives in South Glens Falls as well, said she heard a couple big thuds at about 6:30 a.m., when everyone in her neighborhood was getting ready for work. “It was two loud blasts, almost like a car hit my house or my water heater exploded,” she said. “I was freaking out.”

“It was so scary,” said Isabel Mansman, who was sleeping at her Glens Falls home at the time of the earthquake. “It felt like a truck was driving by the house, but when I opened my eyes the whole bed was shaking. It felt like the whole house was shaking.”

There were no reports of injuries or damage.

Kristy Roberts was working at the Stewart’s Shop on Maple Street in Corinth when the earthquake hit. “I heard a rumbling sound and could feel the vibration under my feet standing on our floor. The walls and windows started to shake, and then it was gone,” she said.

Ed Behan, of Wilton, said the earthquake felt like a meteorite or plane crashed into his house or immediately near it.

“There was a loud bang and the whole house shook,” Behan said, sharing that he jumped up and went from window to window to see what was outside, but all he saw was a school bus driving down the street. Though there was no damage at all, and nothing fell off of any shelves, he said it was still a wild way to be woken up.
