Police chief issues SSPD protocol for outbreak

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » Saratoga Springs Chief of Police Shane Crooks released a statement reassuring the public that the members of the Saratoga Springs Police department continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 and to be aware they are working in conjunctio­n with the Saratoga Springs Fire Department; the Saratoga County Department of Health and City officials “to best determine our response as this situation develops.”

Crooks said the police department has and will continue to make adjustment­s to their protocol to ensure the safety of their personnel, as well as the public they serve.

He reiterated that “the Saratoga Springs Police Department will continue to respond to all emergency calls for service, and that the Police Department will enact certain measures to prevent unnecessar­y contact with those who may be ill, which will affect certain non-emergency calls for service. I would like to remind everyone to follow the recommenda­tions of the CDC.

“If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and develop a fever and symptoms, such as cough or difficulty breathing, call your healthcare provider for medical advice,” Crooks added.

Members of the public are asked not to come to the police department to file a report, but rather are encouraged to contact the department’s nonemergen­cy number (518) 584-1800, option 2.

In addition, if the situation allows, police officers may not be responding to nonemergen­cy calls in person but will contact you via telephone to take your report. Please be advised that wait times may be longer than normal.

All station tours, internship­s, or non-essential programs have been postponed and will be reschedule­d at a later date. All civilian fingerprin­ting services have been suspended until further notice.

The police department does not accept payment for parking violations. Tickets may be paid online at https://www.saratogasp­rings.org/212/Parking-Tickets or by calling (800) 996-0285 to pay by phone, where there is a $3.50 charge per ticket.
