Barrett honored with Elks’ Citizen of the
CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. » The Clifton Park Elks last week presented Clifton Park Town Supervisor Phil Barrett with the lodge’s 2019 Citizen of the Year award. The presentation was made March 16 at the Elks’ Workers Appreciation Dinner held at the lodge March 16.
The Citizen of the Year Award is given to someone, not necessarily an Elk, who has contributed in a special way to improving the local community. This individual is someone who has shown leadership in the community, contributed voluntary service, and is recognized as being an allaround good citizen.
Barrett is currently serving his tenth, twoyear, term in office as town supervisor.
In a statement from the Elks announcing the recognition, Barrett was selected for the award because of the work he has done during his time in office emphasizing there be a balance of economic development and in expanding the town’s parks and recreational resources.
His efforts in these areas have resulted in the successful redevelopment of the Exit 9 commercial area, the preservation of more than 1,700 acres of open space, several new parks and recreational areas, and more than 17 miles of pedestrian trails. The Elks’ honor also recognized Barrett’s efforts in revitalizing the town’s ice arena as well as the Clifton Park
Senior Community Center.
In presenting the award, Clifton Park Elks Exalted Ruler Craig Masterson said he was pleased to recognize Barrett for his many contributions to the community as the town’s longest tenured supervisor.
“He has a long list of accomplishments that have made our town a better place to live and work,” Masterson said.
