VIRTUAL SARATOGA PALIO: The Saratoga Palio is going virtual for its 15th and final year. The event will take place over a 10day period from Sept. 18 through 28, in any location that’s convenient for participants, who can register online to run or walk as an individual or team. They can do the race’s usual half marathon or 5K distance, or log any distance of their choosing in support of The Melanie Foundation. Those participating competitively can upload their race times, and there will be awards for the top three overall male and female finishers in both the 5K and half marathon. While there will be no team or age group awards, the results page will highlight the male, female, and co-ed teams with the fastest top five finishers, the largest team, as well as age group divisions. Participants will be able to download and print a virtual customizable bib and upload a photo, if desired, to be part of an online photo gallery. Certificates will also be sent for participants to download and print. Saratoga Palio race shirts will also be available for pick-up or delivery.
Registration is $30 per person, or $15 for children ages 12 and younger. The race is a fundraiser for The Melanie Foundation, which has a mission to foster support for mental health issues. Merola O’Donnell lived a life of giving, focusing her career on relieving suffering inflicted by mental illness, until her death at the age of 33 while in the midst of doctoral studies in psychology.
