Saint Rose hosts St. Thomas Friday
Women’s team actively seeking opponents
The College of Saint Rose is scheduled to return to the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium this week with the Golden Knights men’s basketball team set to host St. Thomas Aquinas Friday at 1:00 pm. The women are actively seeking future opponents for what will mark the debut of first-year head coach Whitney Edwards.
Home contests will be played without any fans in attendance for the foreseeable future.
“This is a historic victory for our Golden Knights. I am incredibly proud of all 350-plus studentathletes for their perseverance and fortitude that has brought us to this special moment. We have this opportunity because of a robust testing protocol, detailed policies and procedures, committed and passionate coaches, trainers, administrators and donors. In many ways we are stronger now than ever before and honored to represent The College of Saint Rose in competition,” said Lori Anctil, Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics.
A span of 354 days would have elapsed since basketball was last played in Nolan Gymnasium as the Golden Knights split a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader versus American International on February 25, 2020 when the men
chalked up a last-second 7573 win.
This will be the first contest of an abbreviated and flexible basketball schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The NE10 voted on December 15 to cancel formal regular-season and championship competition in the Conference’s seven winter sports, but gave its member institutions the autonomy to determine its athletic contests schedule.
Saint Rose and STAC have faced each other 18 previous times with the Spartans owning a 12-6 series edge. The most recent meeting came last season when #11 STAC chalked up an 85-79 victory in Albany.
The Spartans, ranked #17 in the NABC National Coaches Poll and #11 in the D2SIDA Media Poll, are currently 3-0 following Monday’s 91-77 home victory versus Mercy College
