FISH FRY: Knights of Columbus #246, located at 50 Pine Rd. in Saratoga Springs, will be hosting a Fundraiser Takeout Fish Fry each Friday in Lent, beginning Feb. 19 through April 2, from 5:007:30 p.m. The menu will include Fried or Baked Haddock - $14.00; Fried Clam Strips - $12.00 (these meals come with French Fries, Cole Slaw, Tartar Sauce, and Cocktail Sauce); Shrimp Salad Special (comes with French Fries and Cole Slaw), Homemade Macaroni and Cheese - $5.00; New England and Manhattan Clam Chowder - $7.00 (pint) or $13.00 (quart); Side of French Fries - $3.00; and Dessert - $2.00. Orders will be taken by calling 518-5848547 each week prior to the event on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, beginning at 1:00 and will continue through until 4:00, with the exception of Fridays, which will continue right up until the event or we run out of food. Pickup starts at 5:00 and every 15 minutes thereafter. You are welcome to come into the building with a mask, or you may call from the parking lot upon your arrival with a descriptio­n of your vehicle and your meal will be brought out to you. The meal is open to the public and, as usual, we thank you for your continued support of our events through these challengin­g times.

BROWN BAG LECTURE SERIES: SUNY Adirondack Continuing Education is pleased to present the Brown Bag Lecture Series. Tuesdays, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. March 30 to April 20. Remote via Zoom. BALLSTON SPA FARMERS MARKET: The 2021 Ballston Spa Farmers’ Market, sponsored by the Ballston Spa Business and Profession­al Associatio­n (BSBPA), will run from June 12 through September 30, 2021. The markets will be held on Thursdays from 3-6 pm and Saturdays from 9 am-1 pm and will have a new location on the grounds of the historic Brookside Museum, 6 Charlton Street in the Village of Ballston Spa. The new location is an easy stroll from the market’s previous location in Wiswall Park, with more available parking as well as proximity to Old Iron Spring Park and the Thursday evening summer concerts. The markets have been serving the local community since 2003. Our mission is to bring together producers and consumers and to promote locally created products. The market will be conducted in accordance with any continuing COVIDrelat­ed guidelines that may still be in place, as directed by NYS Ag & Markets. We were able to successful­ly hold our full season in 2020 as an essential business under strict guidelines. Vendors will be properly spaced. Like grocery stores, masks will be required for vendors and customers and social distancing will be implemente­d. Hand sanitizer will be available for customers and vendors. Customers are encouraged to shop individual­ly. The market is now accepting vendors for the 2021 season. SCHOLARSHI­P OPPORTUNIT­Y: The Ballston Spa Business & Profession­al Associatio­n (BSBPA) is once again offering a $500 scholarshi­p to a Ballston Spa High School graduating senior. High school students who hold jobs in the community, while maintainin­g good standards in their schoolwork and deportment, should be recognized for their diligence and responsibi­lity. The Ballston Spa Business and Profession­al Associatio­n Scholarshi­p shall be awarded toa

graduating senior who has demonstrat­ed profession­alism in his/her place of employment and

responsibi­lity in their school community. Students can pick up the applicatio­n informatio­n sheet at the Ballston Spa High School guidance office. VIRTUAL HORSE SYMPOSIUM: CCE Equine, a division of Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension of Saratoga County, is gearing up to host ist second Virtual Horse Symposium in March. This three-week program is offered for adult horse owners, business owners, and horse enthusiast­s in the Capital Region and beyond. This year, classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday for three weeks starting March 16 and ending April 1. Topics include: Sound Developmen­t of Young Horses, An introducti­on to Liability Risks: New York’s Agricultur­al Tourism Act and Negligence in the Horse Industry, Equine Law: Legal Issues for Participan­ts in the Horse Industry, and more. Each session will be hosted virtually at 7 p.m. via Zoom. In addition to the virtual classes, there will be an option for participan­ts to receive educationa­l packets with resources for each presentati­on. New this year, the event will include a Family Fun Equine Trivia Night on April 2 that promises to be a fun and educationa­l experience. Anyone can join this interactiv­e virtual event. VEGETABLE GROWING: Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension of Saratoga County will be hosting a Free Vegetable Growing Series via zoom. All classes in the series will be held from 12:15pm-1:15pm. On Feb. 9, join Master Gardener Charlie for Seed Starting to learn about the basics of starting vegetables from seed. On Feb. 16, join Susan Beebe, Agricultur­e Issue Leader, for Soils 101 to learn about which types of soils to use when vegetable gardening. On Feb. 23, join Jessica Holmes, Consumer Horticultu­re, for Container and Raised Bed Gardening to learn about which vegetables grow best in containers and how to start a raised bed garden. WORKSHOP OPPORTUNIT­Y: The League of Women Voters of Saratoga County has the opportunit­y to nominate individual­s who teach US history, government or civics (grades 9-12) in public or private schools in Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties to participat­e in a half-day live virtual profession­al workshop on April 3rd by Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. The April workshop must be preceded by an 8 hour virtual training program. The Harvard Case Method Project will give teachers the capability to lead case-method style discussion­s in their classrooms and community forums. This year’s training includes the workshop, a full Harvard cases curriculum, the 8-hour asynchrono­us virtual training program, and a profession­al developmen­t certificat­e. Teachers attending the case method workshop must agree to teach at least 1 of the “democracy” cases in their classrooms after the workshop, and help moderate at least one community case discussion with their League. Interested teachers should submit their name, school, and a short statement answering the question “What would you like to accomplish using the casemethod style discussion”. PUBLIC ICE SKATING AND STICK SESSIONS: Public Skating and Stick Sessions are Back at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rinks. The Saratoga Springs Recreation Department is offering weekend Family Skate, Family Stick, Open Public, and Open Stick sessions at the Weibel Avenue Ice Rinks. City residents can begin to register Monday of each week for that weekends’s sessions. Non-City residents can begin to register Wednesday of each week for that weekend’s sessions. WINTER SPORTS RENTALS: Don’t hibernate all winter! Cross country skiing and snowshoein­g are great ways to explore the outdoors during this time of year. Cross Country Skis & Snowshoes are available for rent every Saturday and Sunday through March 14th. Rentals will also be available during the school vacation week from February 15th through February 20th. We have both adult and child sizes available, meaning the whole family can enjoy the winter scenes of Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park! The Rental Cabin is located at the Camp Saratoga North Parcel, Parking Lot #1, on Scout Road of the town of Wilton. Rentals are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids/students. WINTER ACTING CLASSES & CAMPS: Town of Malta Parks and Recreation announces in-person Winter Acting Classes and Camps in January and February. All classes will be taught by Malta’s Artistic Director Elyse Young and will include acting skills, vocal techniques, theater games, rehearsals and performanc­e. Classes take place at the Malta Community Center, One Bayberry Drive, Malta. After School Drama for ages 6-10 will run Thursdays from 4:30pm-5:30pm for six weeks starting January 7.
