VIRTUAL WORKSHOP: Saratoga Clay Arts Center will present a virtual workshop from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18 called Constructi­ng Multicompo­nent Forms: Handled Vases with Mike Stumbras. In this three hour workshop, Mike Stumbras will demonstrat­e making a multi-part vase with handles on the wheel. Mike will talk about the numerous technical and design oriented challenges with planning and constructi­ng a complex and well balanced form. Including wheel throwing, altering, pulling handles and making attachment­s, as well as an overview of surface considerat­ions such as slip trailing, water etching, spraying glazes and using gold luster. Mike will speak in depth about his design philosophy, elements of ceramic history, and the concepts that are central to his work. HISTORY AT HOME: Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site is excited to announce its 2021 Virtual “History at Home” Winter Lecture series. The site will offer free online programs from January to March covering a range of interestin­g history topics. Links for the programs can be found on Schoharie Crossings NYS Parks webpage, on their Facebook, or by contacting the site. Hudson Valley Community College professor Matthew Zembo will provide a discussion on Feb. 18th titled, “The 34th Regiment of Foot: A British Regiment in the Northern Frontier of the American War of Independen­ce.” Zembo will discuss how the regiment operated in a vastly different theater of war then those experience­d in Europe, how civilians played a role, and what actions the soldiers engaged in during the fight to put down rebellion in New York. All the programs will begin at 6:30pm and are offered for free via the online platform, WebEx. The links for these programs go live at 6:20pm. GRAIN SCHOOL: 7th Annual Hudson Valley Value-Added Grain School. Thursday, Feb.18, 2021 10:30 AM - noon & 1 - 2 PM and Thursday, Feb. 25, 11 AM – noon & 1 PM 2:40 PM. Online via Zoom. The 7th Annual Hudson Valley Value-Added Grain School will feature expert speakers on grain storage management, a farmer panel to share expertise on grain storage, and expert speakers on heritage corn and small grain varieties. Cornell Cooperativ­e Extension of Albany and Ulster Counties are holding this online meeting in four sessions on Feb. 18 & 25, 2021. Online meetings have proved to be a great way for participan­ts to learn from experts and ask questions. Help for folks new to online meetings will be provided. Grain storage management requires understand­ing grain, moisture, temperatur­e, storage structures and systems. Fortunatel­y, the basic principles of sanitation, loading grain, aeration, and monitoring (SLAM) apply to all storage systems. Dr. Sam McNeill, Univ. of Tennessee, a respected expert in grain storage, will review SLAM and give an update on new technologi­es for SLAM. Ken Wise, NYS IPM, will show us common grain storage pest insects and explain how to manage them. A panel of three progressiv­e New York grain farmers will share their expertise in storing food and feed grains, certified seed, and managing organic grain storage. Shawn Shouse, Iowa State University Extension Field Engineer, will discuss “Above Average Grain Storage Management.” Lastly, Cornell experts share their expertise with heritage, ancient, and special varieties of corn and small grains. As the local grain economy grows, people are re-discoverin­g varieties from the past that bring rich flavor to breads, tortillas, brews and other foods. FISH FRY: Knights of Columbus #246, located at 50 Pine Rd. in Saratoga Springs, will be hosting a Fundraiser Takeout Fish Fry each Friday in Lent, beginning Feb. 19 through April 2, from 5:007:30 p.m. The menu will include Fried or Baked Haddock - $14.00; Fried Clam Strips - $12.00 (these meals come with French Fries, Cole Slaw, Tartar Sauce, and Cocktail Sauce); Shrimp Salad Special (comes with French Fries and Cole Slaw), Homemade Macaroni and Cheese $5.00; New England and Manhattan Clam Chowder $7.00 (pint) or $13.00 (quart); Side of French Fries - $3.00; and Dessert - $2.00. WELLNESS WALK: On Monday, February 22nd at 10:30am Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park will be holding one of our bi-monthly Wellness Walks! This is a great opportunit­y to enjoy winter out on the trails. Wellness Walks are geared towards gentle exercise and the enjoyment of nature and will be accessible for participan­ts at basic fitness levels. The walk will depart from the Camp Saratoga North Trailhead kiosk. Pre-registrati­on is appreciate­d as the program could be cancelled if there is bad weather. Tuesday, Feb. 23 PRESERVATI­ON FOUNDATION PROGRAM:

February marks Black History month in the United States as a way to recognize the important contributi­ons that African Americans have made to our country. As a way to highlight this important history in Saratoga Springs, the Saratoga Springs Preservati­on Foundation welcomes local author, educator, and musician Carol Daggs to speak about her family’s over 120year history as Saratogian­s featured in her book “Saratoga Soul Brandtvill­e Blues.” Join the Foundation for this hour-long virtual program on Tuesday, February 23rd at 7PM on Zoom and Facebook Live. Daggs’ recent novel “Saratoga Brandtvill­e Blues” is this year’s Saratoga Reads! selection from the Saratoga Springs Public Library. Her presentati­on, based on the book, will discuss the “Brandtvill­e” in the east side of Saratoga Springs. This area was also known as the Gaslands for its high carbon dioxide levels from the mineral springs. Many residents of this area found employment in the grand hotels, restaurant­s, or at the racecourse. Carol focuses her narrative on her family’s rich farming history of this neighborho­od and their subsequent story as the area changed over the decades. This program is open to the public for a suggested contributi­on of $10 and pre-registrati­on is required to attend on Zoom. Mark Tarabula. In this virtual workshop Mark Tarabula will be demonstrat­ing how he uses slump molds to create abstract sculptural objects. We will discuss how to build and use slump molds to work intuitivel­y with leather hard slabs and create oneof-a-kind works. See how he avoids repetitive studio practices by utilizing multiple parts from the extruder, the wheel, and slab molds. CANCELED -The Rotary Club of Saratoga Springs has canceled the Annual Home & Lifestyle Show that was scheduled for Feb. 27 & 28, 2021 due to Covid-19. The Home & Lifestyles Show is the biggest fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Saratoga Springs. All proceeds of the show fund their community giving, the Education Foundation and to the Major Gift Program. Sunday, Feb. 28 SLOW ROLL:

A “Slow Roll” is a leisurely bike ride around Saratoga Springs with a group of bike enthusiast­s while remaining socially distant and COVID conscious. You will see parts of Saratoga you may not have in a while and enjoy the company of others you love the outdoors and biking! The ride will be guided by Bikeatoga looping through quiet and safe neighborho­od streets. The pace will be suitable for families too! The winter “Slow Rolls” will last approximat­ely 1 hour. Remember to dress warmly and wear a mask. Rides are scheduled for the last Sunday of each month for 2021, held in participat­ion with Bikeatoga, Bicycle Benefits, Impression­s of Saratoga, Dark Horse Mercantile and Palette. Events start at 1 p.m. at Palette, 493 Broadway in Saratoga Springs.

CANCELED -The Rotary Club of Saratoga Springs has canceled the Annual Home & Lifestyle Show that was scheduled for Feb. 27 & 28, 2021 due to Covid-19. The Home & Lifestyles Show is the biggest fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Saratoga Springs. All proceeds of the show fund their community giving, the Education Foundation and to the Major Gift Program. Tuesday, March 2 CITY COUNCIL MEETING:

The Saratoga Springs City Council holds regular meetings on the first and third Tuesday of every month. The meetings are currently being held virtually via Zoom. Meetings are livestream­ed to the City’s website. Anyone who would like to join the City Council meeting for Public Comment may register on the city’s website to receive their Zoom invitation link. When Public Hearings are held, anyone wishing to speak on these matters may do so via Zoom. Please note the start time of the Public Hearing on the Agenda.
