Huerter named Player of the Year; Suburban Council names all-stars

CLIFTON PARK, NY » On Wednesday morning, the Suburban Council released the league all stars and Player of the Year for the girl’s basketball season.

Taking the top honors of Player of the Year was Shenendeho­wa senior and Providence women’s basketball commit, Meghan Huerter.

The Shen star averaged 19.9 points-per-game in the condensed season, altogether scoring 298 points in 15 games. She had a balanced scoring attack, putting in 55 two-point field goals overall and 54 three-pointers. During the season, she attained the 1,000 point mark in her career and became Shen’s all-time leading three-point shooter.

Huerter’s fellow Shen teammate, Rylee Carpenter, was selected to the Suburban Council first team. She averaged 12.7 points-per game. Carpenter will be playing basketball at Dominican College next year.

Saratoga sophomore Natasha Chudy also made the first team. Though Chudy’s season was shortened by two games at the end, she averaged 27.4 points per game and shot 80.6% from the line in 67 attempts.

Niskayuna senior Olivia Olsen, who is joining Huerter at Providence, averaged a triple-double in points (25), rebounds (14) and blocks (10).

Guilderlan­d senior and Siena commit Valencia Fontenelle Posson had some dazzling scoring performanc­es throughout the season, earning her a spot on the first team as well.

Jankovic, who is playing basketball at D’Youville College, rounds out the first team, who helped lead the Class A Warriors to a 11-2 regular season in a tough Suburban Council division, including an 8-game winning streak to begin the season.

The second team includes Averill Park’s Ameila Wood, who attained her 1,000th point this season, as a junior. Troy senior Jenalyse Alacron also achieved that milestone this season and will be playing basketball at CUNY Staten Island - she joins Wood on the second team.

Jillian Huerter, a junior, scored 12.5 points-per-game and 85% from the line. She scored 21 in the Suburban Council championsh­ip, earning her a spot on the second team, along with Albany’s Nevaeh House and Saratoga’s Abby Ray.

The third team included Maren Louridas (Bethlehem), Maddie Mahoney (Shaker), KJ Gordon (Shaker), Julia Harvey (Bethlehem), and Callie Chevalier (Burnt Hills).

There was also an all-senior team, which includes Meg Huertter (Shen), Olivia Olsen (Niskayuna), Valencia Fontenelle Posson (Guilderlan­d), Anna Jankovic (Averill Park), Rylee Carpenter (Shen), Jenalyse Alarcon (Troy), Abby Ray (Saratoga), Julia Harvey (Bethlehem), KJ Gordon (Shaker) and Maddie Mahoney (Shaker).
