Speaker LaBrenda Garrett-Nelson is a trustee and current president of the Board for Certification of Genealogists®. The speaker will provide information needed to make sound decisions on when DNA tests can or should be used in genealogical research, and how to meet the DNAspecific genealogy standards for accuracy and completeness. SLOW ROLL: A “Slow Roll” is a leisurely bike ride around Saratoga Springs with a group of bike enthusiasts while remaining socially distant and COVID conscious. You will see parts of Saratoga you may not have in a while and enjoy the company of others you love the outdoors and biking! The ride will be guided by Bikeatoga looping through quiet and safe neighborhood streets. The pace will be suitable for families too! The winter “Slow Rolls” will last approximately 1 hour. Remember to dress warmly and wear a mask. Rides are scheduled for the last Sunday of each month for 2021, held in participation with Bikeatoga, Bicycle Benefits, Impressions of Saratoga,

FAMOUS LADIES TEA: Celebrate Women’s History Month and support literacy programs in Rensselaer County and Albany County at the all-virtual Famous Ladies’ Tea, Sunday, March 28, 1:004:00p.m. Local actresses will portray ten notable women including Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Fannie Lou Hamer, Shirley Temple Black, Anne LaBastille, and Doris Day. Monday, March 29 FARMLAND ACCESS WORKSHOP:
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County and Saratoga PLAN have collaborated to bring a series of three free Farmland Access Workshops. Designed for farmland owners and those looking to purchase farmland or diversify their farming operation, the virtual classes will be held on March 22, March 29, and April 7 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The series will kick off with Farmland
Leasing presented by Nicole Tommell, Agricultural Business Management Specialist of Cornell Cooperative Extension. Learn how to craft agricultural leases that work for both landowners and tenants. The second class is Welcoming the Public with Sarah Miller, Attorney at Hodgeson & Russ LLP. This hour and a half will focus on legal considerations to explore when welcoming the public onto your farm. To close the series Dustin Lewis of Saratoga County Soil and Water Conservation District along with Jessica Holmes and Nicolina Foti of CCE Saratoga present Farmland Evaluation. In this workshop, participants will learn how to find the best fit between agricultural land and farm operation. The workshops are free and open to all. FROG WATCH: On Tuesday, March 30th, Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park and Up Yonda Farm will be holding a joint virtual training session for people who are interested in becoming FrogWatch USA™ Volunteers. FrogWatch USA™ is a frog and toad volunteer monitoring program with over ten years of data collection on record. It is a great opportunity for volunteers to get involved in their community to collect and report information about wetlands and frog and toad populations in the United States and to be a part of a nationwide program where participants learn and practice science while developing a closer relationship with the natural environment. Anyone can volunteer and you do not have to be a frog or toad expert to make an important contribution! All you need is an interest in learning about frogs and toads, the commitment to learn and identify their distinct calls, and the ability to make several evening visits to a local wetland. The training session will be held via Zoom Meeting from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

This three-week program is offered for adult horse owners, business owners, and horse enthusiasts in the Capital Region and beyond. This year, classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday for three weeks starting March 16 and ending April 1. Topics include: Sound Development of Young Horses, An introduction to Liability Risks: New York’s Agricultural Tourism Act and Negligence in the Horse Industry, Equine Law: Legal Issues for Participants in the Horse Industry, and more. Each session will be hosted virtually at 7 p.m. via Zoom. In addition to the virtual classes, there will be an option for participants to receive educational packets with resources for each presentation. New this year, the event will include a Family Fun Equine Trivia Night on April 2 that promises to be a fun and educational experience. Anyone can join this interactive virtual event. Attendees also have the option to purchase a handcrafted charcuterie box that can be picked up locally in Ballston Spa. CLIMATE CHANGE TALK:
The League of Women Voters of Saratoga County will host a virtual conversation with Congressman Paul Tonko and a panel of student activists on Climate Change: Solutions from the National to Local Level. The event will be held on Wednesday, March 31 from 6:45 to 8:30 and will be moderated by Professor Anne Ernst, Environmental Studies and Sciences at Skidmore College. Congressman Paul Tonko will discuss the actions and goals of the federal government in regard to climate change in the current administration, followed by a panel of youth activists discussing local initiatives. This online presentation is open to the public via Zoom is cosponsored by the League of Women Voters and Sustainable Saratoga. Dharma Meditation includes inspirational topics that support emotional, cognitive, and ethical wishes for wellbeing. This is a sitting meditation for 25 minutes with a silent break allowing people to stretch, followed by a second sitting, introduced by a brief talk. A discussion on the topic and some insights and reflections about the nature and commonality of our basic humanity is shared by attendees. This meditation is open to beginners and/ or those who have been meditating for a while. This group has been ongoing 10+ years. Pre-registration is required. Auditioning children (ages 10+), teens and adults, Sunday April 11 from 2:00pm-4:00pm or Monday April 12 from 6:00pm-8:30pms at the Malta Community Center, One Bayberry Drive, Malta. Especially needed: Teen and adult men! Auditions will be scheduled in small groups and by appointment only. All Covid-19 protocols will be explained when requesting your appointment. Rehearsals will begin April 19 and run most Monday and Wednesday evenings and Sunday afternoons until performances. Performances are tentatively slated over two weekends, June 12 & 13 and June 19 & 20, subject to Covid-19 limitations at the time.
