Saturday night assault victim dies
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. >> An assault that occurred on Saturday night in downtown Saratoga Springs, which resulted in two arrests has now turned into a homicide investigation.
The Saratoga Springs Police Department shared that 38-year-old Jordan M. Garafalo, and 27-yearold James J. Garafalo, both of Saratoga Springs, have been arrested for seconddegree assault with intent to cause serious physical injury, a Class D felony. A few days later, city police announced that the victim, Mark C. French, 56, of South Carolina, in this assault died.
Officials said the homicide case is still being actively investigated. The Saratoga County District Attorney’s Office is fully aware of the matter and additional charges will be explored based upon the change in circumstances.
When officers were called to Caroline Street, upon arrival they found in the roadway an unconscious 56-year-old male who had sustained head trauma as a result of an altercation.
The Saratoga Springs Fire Department responded to the scene to provide emergency medical treatment and transport him for additional care.
Investigation shows that that the Garafalos allegedly caused the injuries to the victim during the physical assault, in which no weapons were involved.
Both were arraigned on Sunday and remanded to Saratoga County Jail without bail.
