Old Brick opens new store, 8th in retail chain
CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. » Earlier this month, Old Brick Furniture Co. celebrated the opening of its eighth store.
On Oct. 20, it celebrated the store’s ribbon cutting. The new store is located at 17 Clifton Country Rd, in the space formerly occupied by Toys ‘R’ Us. The familyowned franchise has locations throughout New York, Massachusetts, and Vermont. This is the first one in Saratoga County.
Redeveloping the old retail location for new use aligns with Town Supervisor Phil Barrett’s long-term plan for commerce in Clifton Park. Using existing buildings before building new ones is something Barrett has been working on since 2000.
At the ribbon cutting, county and state officials joined ambassadors and representatives of the Saratoga County Chamber to welcome Old Brick company owner Mike Fiacco and his family to the neighborhood. Fiacco stood with his wife Cassie, children Briella, 13, Luca, 10, and Michael, 7, and his mother Denise Cyr as he was congratulated and wished good luck for the franchise.
Cyr founded Bennington Furniture years ago, and in 2012 sold the company to her son. Last year Bennington Furniture acquired Old Brick Furniture and Mattress Co. and became one company under the Old Brick name, with Fiacco as company owner. The chain has become wellknown for furniture of good value and quality across all its retail locations.
“You purchased a good outlet,” State Sen. Jim Tedisco to Fiacco at the ribbon cutting said. “Old Brick pieces are the talk of the town.”
Tedisco presented Old Brick with the Senate Empire Award, the Senate’s highest award for small businesses and non-profits. Fiacco also received a congratulatory citation from Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh.
“It’s a wise investment for this area,” Walsh said. “The population in Saratoga county is growing, in a good way. To have you step up and make this investment says a lot about this community.”
“This shows that retail is still alive,” added Barrett. “Mike and his family have made a huge investment in Clifton Park, and that investment will pay off. He’s a great example of so many young entrepreneurs coming into our town.”
Fiacco and his family and employees worked hard to get the Clifton Park location ready to open, going from start to finish in 120 days. Fiacco acknowledged the hard work his team put in and expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made the new location possible.
“I’m blown away by my employees and the work they’ve done to get everything ready,” said Fiacco. “And I wouldn’t be here right now without the support of my family. I know it’s bittersweet for Mom to lose the Bennington name.”
Cyr smiled at her son and said, “I’m so proud.”
The new Clifton Park location of Old Brick Furniture Co. is open seven days a week, Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. — 8 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, including to shop online, visit https://www. oldbrickfurniture.com/.
