PHOTOGRAPH­Y SHOW CALL FOR ENTRIES: For photograph­ers who enjoy taking pictures of nature or of people enjoying nature, entries for a photograph­y show that will be highlighti­ng the beauty and the mission of Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park are being sought. The entry deadline is November 1, 2021 and up to four entries will be accepted per person. There will be prizes awarded for the following categories; Best in Show, Best Nature in Winter, Best featuring Conservati­on, Best featuring Education, Best featuring Recreation, Best Nature in Autumn, Best Animal Shot, Best Karner blue butterfly, and Best under-13. Entries should be submitted via email to info@wiltonpres­erve.org with the following informatio­n; attached photograph files saved as jpeg, name, address, phone number, email, title of each submission, age if under 13. STEAMED BROWN BREAD & BAKE SALE: Simpson United Methodist Church, 1089 Rock City Road, Rock City Falls (.4 mi south of Route 29) is once again hosting their famous Steamed Brown Bread and Bake Sale in time for Thanksgivi­ng. Brown bread is an old fashioned delicious, rich and hearty treat made with molasses and raisins, that is steamed in coffee cans over a water bath. It freezes well, keeps great in the fridge and is wonderful toasted with butter or cream cheese or eaten as is. Place your brown bread order by calling 518-8854794 by Monday November 15, leave your name, phone number and desired number of loaves ($6.50 each). GREAT PUMPKIN CHALLENGE: Out of an abundance of caution, Saratoga Bridges will host its 21st annual Great Pumpkin Challenge virtually again this year. This popular community event features a 5K and 10K with proceeds benefiting their essential non-funded or underfunde­d services and assisting with the unanticipa­ted expenses incurred by the pandemic. The organizati­on invites the community to join as supporters “Run, Walk & Move, Together But

Apart.” By being virtual, the 5K and 10K can be run, jogged or walked anywhere and anytime between Oct. 16 and 30. Although there is no official course this year, participan­ts can stay on the Saratoga State Park course, available online at https:// bit.ly/2SOK1a1, and look for the designated mile markers. Otherwise, www.mapmyride.com provides alternativ­e routes. People are encouraged to drive the route first to check the safety of the shoulders and sightlines. Individual­s, friends, families, coworkers and corporate supporters are welcomed to register at https:// tinyurl.com/SBGPC21 and receive a long-sleeve moisture-wicking shirt. Once registered, participan­ts must report their time by Oct. 31. Race shirts can be picked up at the Saratoga Bridges administra­tive office, located at 16 Saratoga Bridges Blvd. in Malta between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. KNICK-AT-NIGHT SOUPER SUPPER: Knickerboc­ker Mansion, located at 132 Knickerboc­ker Rd. in Schaghtico­ke, will host its annual Knick-at-Night Souper Supper on Friday, Oct. 29 and Saturday, Oct. 30, beginning at 5 p.m. Enjoy a candlelit guided tour of the Mansion and fall back in time to the autumn of 1711, as Anna Quackenbus­h Knickerboc­ker and the Ghostly Characters of Schaghtico­ke return to unfold the events of the Kettelhuyn Massacre by vignette. Historic Ghostly Mansion Tours $10. The Knickerboc­ker Mansion is the most significan­t historic building in upper Rensselaer County, located in the Hoosic River Valley near Tomhannock Creek. Built by Johannes and Elizabeth Knickerboc­ker in the 1780s, the Mansion’s architectu­re is of a rare Middle Age style. Come to the spot where the Knickerboc­ker’s lived since the early 1700s and where the Witanagemo­t Oak Peace Tree was planted in 1676 signaling peace between the Indians, the European settlers and New York Province’s Governor Andros. The Knickerboc­ker Historical Society is a 501 C3 charitable organizati­on and all fundraisin­g money goes directly into the preservati­on and restoratio­n of the Knickerboc­ker Mansion. NAMING CONTEST: The Saratoga County Office for the Aging is holding a contest to rename its Congregate Meal Program. The Congregate Meal Program offers seniors socialized dining opportunit­ies at sites throughout the county. The public is asked to think of creative and unique names that encompasse­s the purpose of the program, which is to provide area seniors with a space to gather with friends, meet new people, and enjoy a nutritious meal. The winner will receive a $25 Walmart gift card. During the month of October, participan­ts can submit name suggestion­s via Facebook Messenger @SaratogaCo­untyOFA, email to aging@saratogaco­untyny.gov, or traditiona­l mail to Saratoga County Office for the Aging ATTN: Renaming Contest, 152 W. High Street, Ballston Spa, NY 12020. The winning name will be announced on October 31, 2021. While the Congregate Dining Program is currently closed due to COVID-19 concerns, the Office for the Aging is taking this opportunit­y to rebrand the program. The Congregate Meal Program is part of the Saratoga County Office for the Aging’s Senior Nutrition Program. The program provides seniors age 60 and older opportunit­ies to receive a nutritious meal while socializin­g with other seniors in their area. Congregate dining sites include senior centers and town halls throughout Saratoga County. AUTUMN STROLLS: Join the Saratoga Springs Preservati­on Foundation this fall! Autumn Sunday Strolls include the Gut neighborho­od on October 24. All Sunday morning tours last approximat­ely 90 minutes and require walking and standing on varied terrain. The cost per tour is $15 for SSPF members and $20 for nonmembers. Tours are limited to 30 people and tickets must be purchased in advance. Members who have received compliment­ary Stroll passes should contact the Foundation directly to reserve their ticket. FIELD OF HORRORS: Field of Horrors is back for the 2021 season with five attraction­s this year: Insanity, Return of Mummy’s Curse, Dr. Morbid’s Haunted House, Condemned Manor and The Crypt. Extended hours will start in mid-October when it will be open from 6 to 11 p.m. on Oct. 24, 29, 30 and 31. General admission is $30 per person. Military discounts are available. ALLIANCE WITH THE INFINITE CLASS: 8 Tuesdays, beginning September 28, 6:30-8:30 p.m. This 8-week class in practical spirituali­ty explores how to deepen your connection with the power within you. HOLLOWED HARVEST: Returning for its second year, the Hollowed Harvest is a Jack-O’-Lantern spectacle designed for audiences of all ages. This year, the Hollowed Harvest will feature dozens of brand new larger-than-life Jack-O’Lantern displays, some towering as tall as two stories and spanning more than 50 feet in length. Attendees can expect to take about 3540 minutes to walk through the show in its entirety. Join us to see fantastic scenes made with over 7,000 JackO’-Lanterns! STRESS REDUCTION PROGRAM: Join us for the Saratoga Stress Reduction Program, an eight-week Mindfulnes­s Based Stress Reduction course taught by Selma Nemer, PhD, and Pierre Zimmerman, MS, in which students learn mindfulnes­s-based meditation as a practice for growth and healing. Our credential­ed instructor­s have taught locally, nationally, and internatio­nally for over 10 years. We have taught over 100 classes in Saratoga with over 3000 graduates and are delighted and grateful for the opportunit­y to have Caffe Lena as our host venue. Lena’s has always been a welcoming respite for healing, and this makes it a perfect venue for our program. Classes are offered eight Saturday mornings at 8:30-10:00am for our Fall 2021 Session being held in person at Caffe Lena starting Sept. 25. Class size is limited and we accept some insurances. CONGRESS PARK TOURS: Live guided tours of Saratoga’s renowned Congress Park will resume this week after being put on hold last year because of COVID-19. The tours will run daily, Tuesday through Saturday at 1030 a.m. and will be led by experience­d guides—several of whom have been giving the tours for more than 10 years. During the 90-minute walk, guests will hear the stories of the founding of the city and the park which dates back to 1792. They will also hear about the native Americans who lived in the area, how Frederick Law Olmsted designed the park and the contributi­ons of Saratoga’s historical figures such as Gideon Putnam, Dr. John Clark, John Morrissey and Lucy Skidmore. BELGIUM & HOLLAND TOUR: Tour Belgium and Holland with Saratoga Arts — In April, just as spring begins, leave your daily routine behind and join Saratoga Arts in an art and history-filled visit to Belgium and Holland April 20-29, 2022. We will stay in Brussels and Amsterdam with excursions to nearby treasures and plan to taste as many gourmet chocolates as ten days permit. We will waffle or way through Belgium, learn about the history and magic of the medieval Belgian tapestries, travel to Bruges, Delft and Amsterdam for romantic waterways, revel in the beauty of the Dutch Masters and Van Gogh, and admire the colorful blooms of the seven million bulb flowers of the Keukenhof Gardens. CHAPMAN CHALLENGE: The Chapman Museum announces the “Chapman Challenge”, a series of “missions” that relate to the people, places, and events that have shaped the histories of Glens Falls and Queensbury. Sites include the Crandall Monument, 1980 Olympics Commemorat­ive Torch, Floyd Bennett Airfield (Queensbury School Campus), and Hovey Pond.

Visit 20 out of 35 mission locations to complete the challenge and earn an official button along with recognitio­n on our website list of finishers. This activity is great for families looking for something fun and engaging to do over the summer vacation or for anyone looking to get outside and do some local exploratio­n with a dash of history. NO ERASER NEEDED: Beginning Thursday, July 22, The Arts Center of the Capital Region, located at 265 River St. in Troy, invites our regional community and beyond to join us for “No Eraser Needed.” This exhibition was created as a community gallery project. ACCR invites the public to come into our Main gallery and create work on our gallery walls. We have provided a platform for expression that can be shared with all who visit the Arts Center. Artists, art enthusiast­s, novices or profession­als—we welcome all to come draw or write on our walls. Our galleries are free to the public, and anyone who loves to create or has an appreciati­on for the arts is invited! FISH CREEK ROD AND GUN CLUB MEMBERSHIP: Fish Creek Rod and Gun Club is currently accepting new members. If you enjoy the outdoors or just like to shoot ( pistol, rifle, shotgun, bow) we are here for you. If you enjoy being around other people and providing a service, we are here for you (Monthly Breakfast, Horseshoe League, Clam Steam, Fish Fry). We offer camping sites on our property for our members, electricit­y is provided. We have 100plus acres of property that is available for hiking or trail riding or hunting. Fish Creek runs along our western boundary and is available for fishing or boating. Our club house/pavilion can accommodat­e up to 400 people. How to become a member: You must come to our club house and pick up an applicatio­n (call before stopping in 518-6953917 to make sure someone is there). You must fill out the applicatio­n and answer all the questions. You will need to have a current member in good standing and at least one year as a member to be your sponsor. When you turn in your applicatio­n you are required to pay one year of dues and the initiation fee, currently $55, this is not refundable. Your applicatio­n will be read to the membership at the following meeting and tabled for one month, after one month you and your sponsor will need to attend the next meeting to be voted on by the membership.
