Second person charged in Galway robbery case
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. » The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Michael J. Kennedy, 33, of Amsterdam, was recently arrested and charged with three counts of felony first-degree robbery, two counts of felony first-degree burglary, one count of felony first-degree assault and one count of felony first-degree criminal use of a firearm.
The arrest comes as a result of an investigation on Jersey Hill Road in the Town of Galway. Police said both Kennedy and Cassandra Morsellino, 30, of Amsterdam, entered a residence of a victim known to them with intent to commit a larceny, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
While inside, the victim was struck in the head and stabbed several times. The Sheriff’s Office noted that during the altercation, a loaded firearm was taken away from the victim by Kennedy. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the victim was then shot by Kennedy with the victim’s gun. The victim then returned fire from another firearm striking Kennedy. The victim called 911 and was then transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment for nonlife-threatening injuries.
Kennedy and Morsellino left the scene prior to police arriving. Kennedy was dropped off at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam by private vehicle a short time later and transferred to Albany Medical Center where he has been receiving treatment for two gunshot wounds.
Kennedy was arraigned in the Town of Galway Court by Judge David Devall and remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility with no bail.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The Sheriff’s Office is being assisted by the New York State Police Forensic Identification Unit.
