HVCC theater students present ‘Almost, Maine’

TROY, N.Y. » Hudson Valley Community College’s Theatre Arts students present “Almost, Maine,” written by John Cariani, at 7:30 p.m. on May 5, 6, and 7.

All performanc­es are free to the public and held in the Maureen Stapleton Theatre, located in the Siek Campus Center on the Troy campus.

Cariani’s “Almost, Maine” is comprised of nine scenes that explore love and relationsh­ips in the remote, mythical town of Almost. Each scene introduces at least two main characters, who will not appear again but may be mentioned tangential­ly in later scenes. The critically-acclaimed show includes elements of both dramatic and magical realism. The endearing characters are compelling­ly revealed through a wide range of comedic, serious and poignant moments.

Student actors, sometime playing multiple roles, are Jonathan Neives, Chloe Wise, Isabella Smarro, Rome Brown, Alyssa Burdick, Adeana DiGiuseppe, Nazanin Mosavi, Fin Baack, Leianne Marie Polanco, Zach Mancini, Brennan Clark, Rachel Wait, Drew Sherman, Sharmin Woodall, Christophe­r Sparano, Del Williams, and Matt Palladino. Assistant Professor Rosanne Raneri is directing the play. Student production crew is: Rachel Wait, assistant director; Sivan Adler, stage manager/dramaturge; Nazanin Mosavi, assistant stage manager; Avery Lewis, costume designer; Del Williams, properties manager; Johnathan Nieves, head of makeup; Chloe Wise, hair designer/makeup assistant; Drew Sherman, sound designer; Leianne Polanco and Zach Mancini, lighting, and Isabella Smarro, publicity manager/program designer. Scott Hathaway chairs the Department of Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media.
