HOLOCAUST EXHIBITION: To commemorat­e the Internatio­nal Holocaust Remembranc­e Day, the Schuylervi­lle Public Library will display the exhibit “Messages From Survivors: One Family’s Holocaust Legacy” for the month of January. The exhibit includes six panels of survivor stories, each one unique but linked, as well as take-home cards featuring some of the stories and links to more resources. Schuylervi­lle Public Library will also host a holocaust survivor, Ivan Vamos, who will speak of his early childhood memories in war-torn Hungary with his family and his later emigration from home. Mr Vamos will display some photos and documents from his early years, display some drawings he has made of his time in Hungary, and offer a brief Q & A after his presentati­on. Those interested in attending, may come in person to the Library at 52 Ferry St. Schuylervi­lle or view the discussion via Zoom. ART EXHIBITION: From Tuesday, January 2 to Saturday, February 3, Greenwich Free Library will host “New Beginnings,” a group art exhibit to celebrate the new year, presented by the Greenwich Library & Arts Associatio­n (GALA). The exhibit will be available to view during library hours in the Community Room. Participat­ing artists include: Arthur Brod, Matt Chinian, Don Cook, Judith Ellers, Ann Fitzgibbon­s, Cheryl Horning, Stephen Lack, Adriano Manocchia, Leslie Peck, Valorie Nichols, Clifford Oliver, Ken Perry, Anne Sutherland, Marguerite Takvorian-Holmes, Frank Vurraro. The artists represente­d run the gamut in terms of styles and media of visual arts, from paintings to photograph­y, sculpture to pastels. The subjects of the selected pieces are even more diverse than the media. There will be an artist reception on Friday, January 19 from 7:00 to 8:30pm. Light refreshmen­ts will be served and patrons are invited to come meet the artists. The opening and the exhibit are open to all.

HOSPICE VOLUNTEERS WANTED: The Community Hospice serving Saratoga/ Washington Counties and the Amsterdam area are in need of volunteers who are available to make friendly visits and to provide emotional support to Hospice patients and their families in homes and nursing homes. SNOWSHOE AND CROSS COUNTRY SKI RENTALS: On Saturdays and Sundays from January 6 through the end of March, Wilton Wildlife offers rentals of snowshoes and cross-country skis from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Rentals are also available on Martin Luther King Day and for the February vacation week. Winter Rentals are located in the Winter Lodge at Camp Saratoga with access from Parking Lot #1 on Scout Road in the Town of Wilton. WINTER SPORTS EQUIPMENT RENTALS: Don’t hibernate all winter! Crosscount­ry skiing and snowshoein­g are great ways to explore the trails during the snowy season of the year. Starting the weekend of January 6, cross-country skis and snowshoes will be available for rent every Saturday and Sunday through March 24, weather permitting. Rentals will also be available on Monday, January 15, Dr. Martin Luther King Day and during the school vacation week from February 19 through February 23. Adult and child sizes are available, meaning the whole family can enjoy the winter trails at Wilton Wildlife! The rentals are located in the Winter Lodge at Camp Saratoga with access from Parking Lot #1 on Scout Road in the Town of Wilton. Rentals are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for kids/ students. Members of Wilton Wildlife have access to rental equipment at no cost. Rentals are available between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm with all rented equipment needing to be returned by 3:00 pm. FREE YOUTH SPORTS: “Try Sports for Free” with the Saratoga Springs Recreation Department. This free program gives youth in Grades K-12 the opportunit­y to “Try Sports For Free.” No experience is needed. The first “Try Sports for Free” event will be held at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rinks (30 Weibel Avenue) on December 29th from 6:00-8:00pm. Participan­ts will be able to try curling, figure skating, hockey, and speed skating. In January a variety of sports including field hockey, pickleball, volleyball, and tennis will be available to try at the Scott T. Johnson Rec Center. Additional sports will be available throughout the year for participan­ts to try and have fun! ART EXHIBITION: New York Folklore is proud to announce our upcoming exhibit “Cuts Across Culture: Paper Cuts from Capital Region Artists.” This exhibit brings together the work of artists Jianling Yue of Watervliet and Mishka Luft of Niskayuna. The exhibit will be on view in the New York Folklore Gallery, 129 Jay St in Schenectad­y, from December 4th through early March. Paper cut art is found in cultures around the world. Well known arts forms include Papel Picado from Mexico, Wycinanki from Poland and Wayang Kulit from Indonesia, which uses paper cut figures to create puppet shows. The earliest historical record of paper cut art comes from China in the first millennium. This exhibit showcases works in the Chinese and Jewish traditions. To accompany the exhibit, New York Folklore will present papercutti­ng workshops and an exhibit reception. In a nod to the tradition of American Jews enjoying Chinese food on Christmas, the gallery will be open for viewing on December 25th from 10 am to 3pm.

SCHOLARSHI­P APPLICATIO­N: Hudson Crossing Park invites graduating high school or homeschool­ed seniors from Saratoga, Washington, and Warren Counties to submit an applicatio­n for the 2024 Hudson Crossing Park (HCP) Seedling Award. The HCP Seedling Award is given to a single recipient who has demonstrat­ed excellence and outstandin­g dedication to their community and/or the environmen­t, serving as a role model to their peers and showing others that individual­s are important and can make a difference. This opportunit­y is open to graduating high school seniors, including those who are homeschool­ed, in Saratoga, Washington, or Warren County. Applicants are asked to submit an essay of approximat­ely 1,000 words or a 3-5 minute video describing how their leadership and service have made a positive difference in the environmen­t and/or community, and how they will continue to have an impact through college and beyond. The HCP Seedling Award includes $150 cash and three (3) tickets to Hudson Crossing Park’s Banquet by the Bridge on Thursday, June 13, 2024 for the winner and two parents/guardians/guests. Submission­s should be received no later than 5pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. CLAYFEST: Saratoga Clay Arts Center’s Schacht Gallery presents CLAYFEST, a national invitation­al exhibition celebratin­g the holiday season with a compilatio­n of incredible functional pots and decorative works by twentyone establishe­d clay artists from across the country.
