HVCC hosting apprentice round table for employers today

- Staff report

TROY, N.Y. >> Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) is holding a round table for employers about apprenticeships today.

“Apprenticeships, SUNY Training Funds and You: An Employer Roundtable,” will take place from 8:30 to 11 a.m. in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center. The event is hosted by the college’s Office of Community, Professional and Workforce Development.

According to a press release, the purpose of the round table is to bring together Capital Region business owners who are interested in learning more about the state Department of Labor’s Registered Apprenticeship program, as well as funds available through the State University of New York for workforce training.

Those in attendance will learn how HVCC can help facilitate getting started with apprenticeship training and how to access training funds available through SUNY.

“Registered apprenticeship is a proven strategy to build a skilled workforce, and it certainly benefits both the employer and the apprentice. We also want Capital Region employers to know about training funds available through SUNY that we at Hudson Valley can help them access,” HVCC President Roger Ramsammy said in the release. “I urge business owners to join us and learn how Hudson Valley Community College can help them.”

HVCC currently offers apprenticeship programs in: advanced manufacturing technology, computer information systems, biotechnology, electrical construction and maintenance, and basic direct care skills. The college’s Office of Community, Professional and Workforce Development oversees customized workforce training.
