Free Narcan training on Monday

- By Saratogian staff

The Town of Halfmoon recently announced a collaborative effort with the Saratoga County Department of Health as well as the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office to offer a free lifesaving Narcan Training session on Monday, April 29, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Halfmoon Town Hall.

Participants in the free training will learn to identify signs of an opioid overdose and safely administer Naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, a nasal spray that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

According to a press release provided by the town of Halfmoon, statistics show that Naloxone has been a critical tool in saving lives, with nearly 27,000 lives saved due to Narcan kits distributed to friends and family. In 2019 alone, nearly 50,000 people died from opioid-involved overdoses, highlighting the importance of widespread Naloxone availability and training.

The training is free and open to the public, and attendees will receive complimentary Narcan kits. This initiative is part of the Town of Halfmoon’s ongoing commitment to public health and aligns with its continued partnership with the Saratoga County Department of Health and Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office to address the opioid crisis.

“We are committed to the health and safety of our community,” Halfmoon Town Supervisor Kevin Tollisen stated in the release. “I encourage every resident of Halfmoon to join us for this important session. Halfmoon is proud to partner with the Saratoga County Department of Health and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office to offer this free training to learn how to save lives and make a difference in the fight against opioid overdoses.

“Let’s come together to learn, prepare, and protect our loved ones.”
