Simpson enjoys dream come true

Ramona Simpson, Instructor at Hot Springs Beauty College

-

I live in: Hot Springs I was born in: Kilgore, Texas I live in Arkansas because: I moved here with my sister and her family after our mom passed away. My family includes: Myself and my three children, Rani Simpson, Brycient Simpson, and Brayndon Simpson. What I do for a living: I am an instructor at Hot Springs Beauty College. My dream job would be: Working where I am now. Growing up I wanted to be: A cosmetologist The person who influenced me the most growing up was: My older brother, Lathiell Simpson. The most rewarding part of my job is: Watching a student learn something new and apply it in the clinical setting, watching them be proud of their work and the client to be satisfied, as well. It’s also rewarding to see them complete the course, obtain their license and get a job in this field, where they will be

working to become established as a stylist. The biggest thing I would like to see the beauty college accomplish in the next six months is: The clientele to increase by 15 percent, and student enrollment to increase every class by 15 percent. In a struggling economy, how do you encourage your students concerning getting a job after they complete the course? Midway through the course, we like to have our students start looking for a place they would like to be employed. We encourage them to be committed to the career choice and to never give up. Although it may be slow in the beginning, if you maintain and be steadfast, it will be well worth all the effort and time you have given toward your dream. My favorite childhood memory is: There are so many, but I can tell one today. I think I was about 8 years old the day I learned to braid my doll’s hair all by myself. When I showed my mom what I had done, she was so proud of me. I knew then doing hair would be what I would do when I grew up. My favorite song growing up was: “I Wish,” by Stevie Wonder The first car I ever owned was: 1990 Nissan Pulsar My all-time favorite movies are: “Temptations,” “My Girl,” “A Thin Line between Love and Hate,” “The Breakfast Club,” “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” I’ll never watch: “The Exorcist” My favorite food to eat is: Anything Mexican.

My favorite sports team is: The Dallas Cowboys I love Arkansas because: It is so beautiful in the summer. My favorite time of the year is: Winter My most prized possession is: My children. The most daring thing I’ve ever done is: Fly on an airplane. The hardest thing I’ve ever done is: Saying good-bye to my mother for the very last time. My favorite holiday is: Christmas I’ll never forget the day this happened: I started beauty college and realized dreams can come true.
