A Perfect Cut

Asa hairstylist, Derinda Hatton visits with many customers throughout the day helping them achieve the perfect look. And in 2009, she met the love of her life, Scott Taylor, after doing his mother’s hair.

“She suggested I meet her son,” Derinda said. “He came in for a haircut and about a week later, we went on our first date.”

The two have been “together and apart both” since then, but realized they wanted to stay together for good.

“I could not be happier with the way our special day turned out,” she said. “Everything was so beautiful.”

The big day: Jan. 4, 2014

The location: Anthony Chapel at Garvan Woodland Gardens

The reception: Our reception was at the Clarion Resort on the Lake with beautiful Lake Hamilton as the backdrop. We served dinner along with drinks and cake. Our wedding cake was very simple, square with layers of white and lime green with orchids draping along the front. The grooms cake was outdoor themed with camouflage, leaves and a buck on top.

The dress: My dress was an ivory one-shoulder Oleg Cassini with beading along the bodice and

bead details along front and the train.

The look: The colors were lime green and purple and we incorporated the flower arrangements to compliment the colors. We had bouquets of white roses, calla lilies and many other green flowers of names that I can neither recall or spell.

We had three bridesmaids and three groomsmen, and two flower girls. The bridesmaids wore purple and the flower girls wore white full length dresses with ruffles galore. The groomsmen all wore black tuxedos along with the groom, and the groomsmen’s vests were purple to match the bridesmaids.

Most unforgettable moment: The most memorable moment was, to me, the ceremony and the reception where there was a special dance for all married couples there. The DJ asked all the couples that were married to start dancing. He did a special announcement in ascending order for the couples to step off the stage if they had been married a certain number of years. Of course, Scott and I were the first to exit the stage. The couples left on the stage that were married the longest were my grandparents, who have been married nearly 61 years.

The honeymoon: We did not take a honeymoon, but plan on going on a cruise this spring or summer due to the nicer weather.
