Thacker & Braswell

Sometimes love is in a different time zone, but other times it’s waiting just five minutes down the street. For Bismarck residents Dakota Baswell and Ashley Thacker, this could not have been more true.

The two did not meet until Ashley was in school at Henderson State University when a mutual friend set them up on a blind date. However, they lived just five minutes apart.

“I immediately knew it was something special, and two weeks later, we began dating,” Ashley said.

The proposal was nothing out of a fairytale, yet Ashley said the simplicity made it perfect.

“Dakota wanted the proposal to be a complete surprise, and he succeeded,” she said. “He had invited my parents over to his house — he had already asked my dad, and he knew it would be important for my parents to be there.

“As I was sitting on the couch talking to my mom and dad, he came around the corner and got down on one knee. I immediately started to cry as I shook my head ‘yes.’”

The big day: We said “I do” on May 24, 2014

Best Man and Maid of Honor: Spencer Hunt and Kimberly Shepherd

The location: Ausley Family Farms in Bismarck

The reception: The reception was at Ausley Family Farms with cakes by Brandi Kyzer at Sweet Lucy’s. Matt Snodgrass and Jordan Bell at High Voltage Entertainment provided the music.

The look: I wanted a rustic look with a pop of color. The colors were coral and turquoise with burlap and lace accents.

The dress: I wore a cap sleeve lace over satin gown with illusion back in ivory from David’s Bridal.

Most unforgettable moment: The most unforgettable moment of the day was reading the letter my husband had written. We had decided to write each other letters to read the day of the wedding. Needless to say, I was in tears — happy tears, of course.

The honeymoon: We went on a cruise to Cozumel, Mexico, The Cayman Islands, and Montego Bay, Jamaica. We swam with dolphins, went scuba diving, basked in the sun and saw some of the most beautiful sights we had ever seen.
