Bentley & Chambers

- Story by Beth Bright

Like many good love stories start, Kim Bentley and Kelby Chambers met in college through mutual friends. The only difference was she attended Arkansas Tech University while he went to the University of Central Arkansas.

Having met through mutual friends when Kim would visit UCA, it wasn't until a few years later in 2011 that she and Kelby became better friends, talking daily.

“For my 21st birthday, we were in Conway and a bunch of us went out to eat,” she said. “Kelby was there and we sat right next to each other most of the night and I even pretended he was my boyfriend at one point, which he didn't mind pretending I later found out.”

About a week later, she said, he asked her on a date and “the rest is history.”

Nothing seemed too out of the ordinary for the proposal, Kim said, as Kelby's mom was always taking photos of the couple. The plan was to meet his parents at Mount Magazine for family photos, and it wasn't until Kelby asked Kim to dress up that she started to wonder what was going on.

“As we pulled up, I see his parents and notice neither of them were dressed up,” she said. “But still, I didn't think much of it.”

With the moutain view as the backdrop, the couple walked in to a room filled with candles and flower petals on the floor.

“Kelby's sister, Sierra, was already in the room recording it on her phone,” Kim said. “I instantly knew what was happening… I said `yes' and we were engaged.”

The big day: July 19, 2014. I like to think my grandmother in Heaven helped changed the weather because, there was a pretty good chance of rain that I was not looking forward to.

Best Man and Maid of Honor: Best Man was Adam Jarrard, and Maids of Honor were Devin Newman and Kate Nance.

The location: Anthony Chapel at Garvan Woodland Gardens

The reception: The reception was at the Garvan Pavilion. It's very beautiful and is surrounded by beautiful flowers.

I am a very picky eater so the food had to be something I would eat. We had chicken strips, mac and cheese, slider sandwiches, spinach dip and strawberry cake balls all by Debby Talley at Special Touch Catering. We also had a kids' table set up with kid-friendly food.

The wedding cake was made by Jenny Robertson from Mena. I had an idea in my head, but couldn't find pictures to match it. I saw a picture of another wedding cake she had done and wanted that one immediately. It was very simple and had beautiful lace details on it and our C initial. It was absolutely stunning and tasted delicious!

The groom's cake was Dallas Cowboys themed and made by Ambrosia Bakery.

Music played throughout the reception and we also had our first dance, father/daughter dance and mother/groom dance.

The look: My colors were Oasis — named for a teal color at David's Bridal — and black. We had their dresses in

Oasis and the honor attendants wore black dresses. The groomsmen had black tuxes with Oasis vests. We also incorporated the colors into our sand for the ceremony, the tablecloths at the reception and the wedding programs.

My wedding coordinators, Ladatha Hobson and Lauren Frost, were so awesome. I really had no clue what I wanted anything to look like except for simple and pretty. They made the entire day perfect for me and everything went smoothly. I am so thankful for them.

The flowers were very beautifully done by Lauren Frost. All the flowers were brightly colored and we had two simple arrangements in tall vases for the ceremony. I had an all-white bouquet with the Oasis colored fabric wrapped around the stems. My bouquet also had a picture of my late grandmother attached to it and her wedding ring was also on it as my something borrowed. The bridesmaids and honor attendants had brightly colored bouquets to match the theme. We had the reception tables decorated with simple, bright flowers. The wedding cake also had the flowers on it, which were beautiful.

The dress: My dress was a strapless, A-line dress with lace and beading from David's Bridal. The back was corset tied and had the same design throughout.

Most unforgettable moment: We weren't worried about breaking the tradition of not seeing each other before the wedding. Our photographer had talked to us about the first look and we really wanted to do it that way, it was only Kelby's moment of seeing me in my wedding dress, not him and all the guests. While I was walking to the chapel for the first look, I already started crying before I had even seen him. Once I got in the chapel and tapped him on the shoulder to turn around, we both cried and exchanged our letters that we had written for each other. I loved getting to have that first look and it is the moment I remember the most.

The honeymoon: Our honeymoon was in Gulf Shores, Ala. It was very relaxing and we laid on the beach every day we were there.
