Hot Springs On The GO!
It's no secret that we love St. Patrick's Day in Hot Springs, as it's one day out of the year that visitors and locals alike can share in the silliness and good spirit of the holiday.
Being the day after my birthday, the holiday has always held a special place in my heart, though I'm not Irish and have never claimed to be. But that's exactly what the spirit of the First Ever 12th Annual World's Shortest St. Patrick's Day Parade is all about. Perhaps this year's Shamrock Queen Kerry Lockwood Owen summed it up best when she said this is “everybody's celebration and everyone is to feel a part of it.”
This year, NASCAR legend and Arkansas native Mark Martin will be leading the way down the 98-foot stretch of Bridge Street, and the hottest new country music duo The Swon Brothers will be kicking things off and celebrating with the crowd as the event's starters and post-parade entertainment. Owen along with King Don Gooch will reign over the festivities and are sure to get the crowd in on the fun.
This event signifies the start of spring in the Spa City, and with that comes new and exciting things happening in our community. Organizations like the Arts Advisory Commission which work as “stewards of the city art collection” according to to one of its cochairs, Ann Caruso, play up Hot Springs' beauty.
Then we have individuals like Kye Masino, 16, who was appointed in February to the 2015 National Youth Leadership Council with the Jane Goodall Institute's Roots & Shoots environmental and humanitarian youth program. Masino along with other members will participate in skills training with Roots & Shoots staff and serve as mentors locally and abroad.
Hot Springs is a special place in springtime and I think it's safe to say we're all ready for what's in store.
