Ifinally threw out the pumpkin that has been sitting on my front porch and now it looks like Christmas has exploded in my living room.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year.
What makes this time of year so wonderful? For me, it’s the cold weather. I always say I hibernate during summertime and come out when the outside temperature begins to drop. It’s the smell of leaves burning and the colorful Christmas lights on the houses as I drive through my neighborhood.
This brings to mind a tradition my family had when my brother and I were younger. Every year around Christmastime, we would go to Dairy Queen and order ice cream, then drive through big neighborhoods, Christmas music blasting through the car speakers, and spend hours admiring the Christmas lights and displays on the houses and in the yards.
I hope you all are enjoying your own Christmas traditions and making new memories.
Our cover story this month features 16-year-old dancer Kodie Brown and the Hot Springs Children’s Dance Theatre Company’s performance of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker,” which took place in late November and early December this year. This is the dance company’s fourth year to put on “The Nutcracker” and founder and artistic director Edmond Cooper said the show gets a little bigger and a little better with each year.
For the HER Fitness feature this month we caught up with Monda Parsley, the owner of Fitness in Training (F.I.T.) by Monda. Though this is the most wonderful time of the year for many, there is such a thing as the “holiday blues.” Add that to the sweet, calorie-packed treats that seem to come out this time of year and your seemingly healthy lifestyle could take a big hit and throw you off track. A membership to F.I.T. is only $74 per month and that includes unlimited classes and meal plans.
Since the holidays are a time for family and friends to come together and celebrate, many women may be preparing for upcoming holiday parties. You’ve got the perfect dress, matching shoes, jewelry and handbag. What about your nails? This month’s HER Style features nail artist Cherish Nuckols at Clay Roots Beauty & Facial Boutique, 241 Cornerstone Blvd. Whether you prefer candy cane stripes, snowflakes or Christmas trees, she can do it all. Merry Christmas, everybody. And Happy New Year!
