Food Services eyes Balboa Club

-

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE – The future of the Balboa Club was the “hot topic” of discussion for the Food Services Committee in April.

Chairman Joe Morea has asked committee members Betty Alspaugh, Fred Camacho, Mark Engelhardt, Una Johnson, Danielle Spacey and Joyce Wood to “breathe life back into the Balboa Club; develop a plan to preserve this viable asset to our community.”

The Balboa Club opened its doors in 1988 as one of the Village’s signature facilities. Now, only the lower level bar- lounge and the golf pro shop are open.

The committee’s mission is to “advise POA staff within policies and guidelines of the board of directors in regards to matters of food service operations, food service equipment, and food service contracts, including the interviewing of new or potential food service operators excluding activities specifically assigned to other committees.”

In line with its mission, the committee worked with the POA’S staff to finalize long- term lease agreements with owneroperators at Cortez Paradise Grill and Mulligans at Ponce.

The committee recently conducted a survey of Village restaurants. Patrons were asked to respond to various questions, including ones regarding the quality of food, quantity of food, menu choices, restaurant atmosphere, friendliness of wait staff and pricing.

For restaurants that participated in the survey, results showed that patrons, overall, are happy with Village restaurants.

The committee meets the first Monday of the month at 1: 30 p. m. at Coronado Center. Time, date, and place changes are posted on the POA website.
