A local man who allegedly stabbed another man during an altercation late Thursday was arrested by Hot Springs police on a felony battery charge.

Joshua Lee Callicott, 21, who lists an address of 802 Clara St., was taken into custody shortly before 8 p. m. in the 100 block of Mccafferty Street and charged with second- degree battery, punishable by up to six years in prison. He remained in custody Friday in lieu of $ 2,500 bond.

According to reports, shortly before 7: 30 p. m., police responded to Mccafferty Street to a disturbance and it was noted it was the third time that evening officers were dispatched to the area.

Upon arrival, police found a local man with a knife wound to his left forearm. The victim and eight or nine other people had been walking in front of the residence at 115 Mccafferty, which is reportedly the home of Callicott’s sister, and Callicott was standing in the driveway.

The victim allegedly ran into the yard and attempted to punch Callicott, who he ducked and avoided the blow. Callicott was reportedly holding a knife and stabbed the victim in the arm during the confrontation.

The report notes the knife punctured the arm enough to cause “considerable bleeding.” The report didn’t indicate if the victim was treated at the scene or transported to a hospital.

Callicott was taken into custody and ques- tioned and also stated the victim “came at him” and tried to hit him. He admitted to pulling out a knife and stabbing at the victim and that the knife “caught him on the arm.”

Callicott told police he has had an ongoing problem with the victim and some others who live on Mccafferty, but the report didn’t indicate the nature of the dispute.

Callicott is set to appear May 8 in Garland County District Court.

• A 19- year- old local man was arrested Thursday afternoon for taking a woman’s car without permission and later fleeing from police.

Rodney Lewis, who lists an address of 400 Golf Links Road, Apt. 69, was taken into custody around 1 p. m. on misdemeanor charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle, punishable by up to one year in jail, and fleeing. He was later released on $ 1,500 bond and is set to appear May 8 in district court.

According to reports, about 15 minutes earlier, the victim called police to report her maroon Pontiac Grand Am had been taken without her permission.

HSPD Sgt. Jonathan Burfeind spotted the vehicle northbound on Ewing Street and stopped it at Sunnyside and Ewing. A suspect identified as Lewis was driving, but jumped out and fled on foot as Burfeind approached him.

Lewis was apprehended in the 600 block of Golf Links and taken into custody without further incident. He told police he ran because he doesn’t have a driver’s license and knew he wasn’t supposed to be driving the vehicle.

He stated he got the car from his girlfriend, who got it from a woman he didn’t know.
