HS, HSV students receive Hendrix scholarships
CONWAY – Connor Anderson, Anna Green, and Robert Taylor, all of Hot Springs, and Marina Sweeten, of Hot Springs Village, have been awarded scholarships to attend Hendrix College beginning in the fall of 2012.
Anderson, a senior at Lakeside High School, has received both an academic scholarship and an Odyssey Honors and Distinction Award for Artistic Creativity. He is the son of Ken Anderson and Susan Lashbrook.
Green, a senior at Lakeside High School, has received both an academic scholarship and an Odyssey Honors and Distinction Award for Service to the World. She is the daughter of Doug Green and Lucy Green.
Taylor, a senior at Lakeside High School, has received an academic scholarship and an Odyssey Honors and Distinction Award for Professional and Leadership Development. He is the son of Anthony Taylor and Michelle Strause.
Sweeten, a senior at Jessieville High School, has received an academic scholarship and an Odyssey Honors and Distinction Award for Professional and Leadership Development. She is the daughter of Brian Sweeten and Karen Fisher.
Local students receive scholarships from SAU
MAGNOLIA – Southern Arkansas University has announced scholarship awards for the 2012- 2013 academic year.
Allison Dodge, Tyler Edding, and Misty Wood, all of Hot Springs, Whitney Ellison, of Jessieville, Justin Oglesby, of Pearcy, and Katherine Myers, of Amity, received the Achievement Scholarship. This scholarship includes $ 1,000 per semester and has a four year value of $ 8,000.
Dodge, a senior at Fountain Lake High School, is the daughter of Valerie and Charles Dodge. Wood, a senior at Arkansas School for Math, Sciences, and the Arts, is the daughter of Sandra Wood. Eddings, a senior at Hot Springs High School, is the son of Jim and Suzanne Eddings.
Ellison, a senior at Fountain Lake High School, is the daughter of Glenda Ellison. Oglesby, a senior at Bismarck High School, is the son of Patsy Oglesby. Myers, a senior at Hot Springs Christian High School, is the daughter of James and Margo Myers.
Michaela Dodson, of Hot Springs, a senior at Hot Springs High School, was awarded the University Scholarship. This scholarship includes $ 4,500 per semester and has a four year value of $ 36,000. She is the daughter of Jessica Dodson.
Toni Hines, of Hot Springs, a senior at Hot Springs High School, was awarded the Top Ten Percent Scholarship. This scholarship includes $ 2,550 per semester and has a four year value of $ 20,400. She is the daughter of Adriane and Tony Hines.
Benjamin Orr, of Bismarck, Mason Carroway, of Glenwood, and Dalton Hill, of Bonnerdale, received the Blue and Gold Scholarship. This scholarship includes $ 2,550 per semester and has a four year value of $ 20,400.
Orr, a senior at Bismarck High School, is the son of Ronny and Sheryl Orr. Carroway, a se- nior at Caddo Hills High School, is the son of Shawn and Ginger Rowland. Hill, a senior at Caddo Hills High School, is the son of Tony and Terrie Hill.
JMS student receives award for presentation
Patrick Mcnamara, a sixthgrader at Jessieville Middle School and a student of Gaye Johnson’s United States history class, presented his paper.
It was entitled Young America Takes a Stand: The War of 1812 Told by a German Boy, and presented to the Daughters of the American Revolution of Hot Springs Village in April at Good Samaritan Chapel in Hot Springs Village.
Mcnamara took first place in the contest and was awarded a certificate.
HS students participate in Hendrix production
CONWAY – The Hendrix College Players presented “The Country Club” in performances April 18- 21.
Daniel Herrold, of Hot Springs, a senior English major, served as a member of the set and lights crew. Herrold is the son of Jeff and Susan Herrold.
Tawny Smedley, of Hot Springs, a sophomore English literary studies major, served as a member of the props crew. Smedley is the daughter of Robert and Dianna Smedley.
Local students get awards from Arkansas Tech
RUSSELLVILLE – Harlan Thomas Jones, of Hot Springs, Travis Michael Clark, Heather Elaine Ferguson, and Lindsey Marie Rucker, all of Pearcy, received College Scholars awards from Arkansas Tech University.
Kelsey Jordan Ledbetter, of Hot Springs, David Gruszka, of Pearcy, and Anna Wilson, of Jessieville, received the Second Century Scholars award from the university.
Jones, a Lakeside High School student, plans to major in engineering and is the son of Stephenie Agus and Matthew Jones.
Cl a rk, a Lake Hamilton High School student, intends to major in art education and is the son of Deanna and Michael Clark.
Ferguson, a Lake Hamilton High School student, plans to major in business and is the daughter of Dave and Janice Ferguson.
Rucker, a Lake Hamilton High School student, intends to major in medicine and is the daughter of Keith and Cindy Rucker.
Ledbetter, a Lake Hamilton High School student, intends to major in mathematics and is the daughter of Tom and Vickie Ledbetter.
Gruszka, a Lake Hamilton High School student, intends to major in math education and is the son of David Gruszka and Breanna Johnson.
Wilson, a Jessieville High School student, intends to major in mathematics and is the daughter of Loren and Sonja Wilson.
LHS senior receives award for video
Brian Chaffin, a senior at Lakeside High School, won second place in the live action video category at the Arkansas Association of Instructional Media Student Media Festival with a video he created, starred in and directed called “The Truth Behind Bullying.”
The video was sent in my librarian, Rachel Shankles to AAIM’S state media contest and judged prior to April 21 when the Student Media Festival Awards program was held at Rogers High School.
Chaffin made the video in Environmental And Spatial Technologies class under the supervision of Mary Vitro, EAST facilitator.
LHS student honored for media work
Lakeside High School senior Veronica Vest was honored at an artist reception and awards ceremony at the 51st Annual Young Arkansas Artists Exhibition on April 22 in Little Rock at the Arkansas Arts Center.
Vest was honored for her mixed media work, “Cole Water,” with the Best of Class award.
She is the daughter of Kenneth Vest and a second year Advanced Placement 2- D design and drawing art student of Jo Hornbeck at Lakeside.
The statewide contest is open to Arkansas students in K- 12. Members from the Arkansas Art Educators served as jurors in the selection process from the 667 entries.
Arkansas Children’s Hospital sponsored the best of class awards with a donation to the school’s art department. The Young Arkansas Artists Exhibition will be on display in Little Rock until May 23.
HS resident receives top award at UAM
Annie Priest, of Hot Springs, received an O u t s t a n d - ing Senior Award from the School of Computer Information Sys tems at the University of Arkansas at Monticello during its recent annual spring banquet.
Awards were presented to the outstanding senior, junior and rookie of the year.
