Music Festival, YAC team up for concert

-

The Hot Springs Music Festival received a grant from the Youth Advisory Council to provide free tickets for students at the “Inside Looking Out!” concert at 7: 30 p. m. June 4 at Hot Springs Fieldhouse, 228 Orange St.

This special educational concert will welcome audience members inside the Festival Symphony Orchestra and allow them the opportunity to witness a conducting master- class and reading of Mahler’s monumental first symphony, the “Titan,” from inside the orchestra.

Sitting with Festival musicians, audiences will have the opportunity to interact with musicians throughout the event and witness world- class musicmaking from the “inside.”

Hot Springs School District Superintendent Joyce Craft and District Fine Arts Teachers are collaborating with the Hot Springs Music Festival to reach students and encourage their attendance.

All students, from any school, are welcome to call the Festival office at 623- 4763 and reserve tickets in advance.

General admission tickets are also available for $ 15.

Festival Conductor Peter Bay of the Austin Symphony will coach Assistant Conductor Carlos Espinosa as he conducts Mendelssohn’s “Hebrides Overture” the first half of the evening.

Maestro Bay will take the podium for the second half of the evening as the orchestra reads excerpts from Mahler’s first symphony, the “Titan.”

“This is an opportunity not to be missed,” says Festival General Director Todd Cranson. “Mahler’s first symphony is a huge, powerful work, and experiencing it from inside the orchestra will be a life- changing experience for some.”

The Hot Springs Music Festival will take place June 316 and feature more than 20 concerts and 250 free, open rehearsals.

Call 623– 4763 for information.
