Friends of the Library hold book sale

-

Thousands of secondhand books will be available at the annual spring book sale sponsored by the Friends of the Library from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m. Friday and Saturday in Garland County Library auditorium, 1427 Malvern Ave. There is no admission charge.

The collection of books includes paperback and hardcover fiction and nonfiction for adults and children. Most of the books are priced from 50 cents to $ 4, including “nearly new” selections by best- selling authors. Other items available are secondhand audiobooks, CDS, DVDS, videocassettes, puzzles, and hobby or craft magazines. There will be several tables of out- of- print books and collectibles.

In addition to the sale in the auditorium, the daily book sale room in the new library addition will be open and all books in that room will be reduced in price to 20 cents for paperbacks and 25 cents for hardcover volumes.

There will be a Preview Sale open only to members of the Friends of the Library organization from 9 a. m. to 7 p. m. Thursday. Anyone may join the group by paying the annual $ 5 dues at the sale door on Thursday.

Membership dues, together with other contributions and money raised from book sales, provide funds to benefit the Garland County Library. Last year, the Friends gave the library more than $ 54,000.

The money donated by the Friends supplied funds to pay for a book rental program supplying current bestsellers for adult readers, the expenses of several special summer programs for teenagers and adults, and the purchase of new books, supplies and other expenses of many popular programs sponsored by the children’s department throughout the year.
