Women’s Welcome Club touts nursing scholarship recipients

-

May is the annual celebration for the nursing scholarship recipients of the Women’s Welcome Club of Hot Springs. The 51- year- old club began giving financial aid to nursing students at Ouachita Hospital in the 1960s. Although its 300 members participate in many social functions, the scholarship program is the largest of the community involvement activities.

President Mary Beth Vowell selected Kathy Nichols as the chairwoman for the 2012 Civics Committee. Jo Cash, Sylvia Willis, Earlene Green and Shelby Church helped Nichols choose the three nursing students from National Park Community College.

Club members, guests and any woman new to the community are welcome to meet the scholarship recipients Wednesday at Hot Springs Country Club. The celebration will begin at 10 a. m., as the members begin to gather for visiting time. At 11: 30 a. m., the luncheon will be brought to order and the group will have a brief talk by each nursing student who received a scholarship.

A Mediterranean chicken croissant sandwich half will be served with a side of vegetable rice soup followed by peach cobbler. Special dietary needs must be made by contacting Vowell by Monday morning. Reservations are required.

After lunch, members can choose from bridge or Hand/ Foot for an afternoon of cards.

Any woman who is new to Hot Springs and has an interest in a social and philanthropic club, may call Vowell, 767- 9359.
