NPCC students get funds on Nursing Honors Day
National Park Community College’s nursing students were honored with scholarships from new and recurring donors Thursday during the college’s annual Nursing Honors Day 2012.
Janice Ivers, RN program director and nursing scholarship chairwoman, said more than $ 31,000 in scholarships were awarded to practical nursing students and sophomore and senior registered nurse students.
“Some of our donors are past graduates of our nursing programs that ‘ pay it forward’ to another deserving student as they had received a scholarship while attending school,” she said. “The exponential nature this is having on the lives that are being touched by these donors is incredible.”
Linda Castaldi, nursing division chairwoman, said the event dates back to the 1990s.
“The tradition began years ago to celebrate the accomplishments of our nursing students and to recognize the donors and community support that is vital to the success of the nursing programs,” she said Friday. “It is a moti-
vational and heartwarming celebration.”
