How to lay carpet beautifully

-

When it comes to laying carpet, Tony O’bryan, of O’bryan Family Floors, said in a press release to “have a pro do it. It’s harder to do than it looks.”

Tony O’bryan insists his sons follow a 17- point checklist. Here are nine of them:

1. Use a power stretcher to smooth out wrinkles and avoid buckling or the carpet will not lay well.

2. All carpet nap needs to lay in the same direction, otherwise, the carpet will appear to be two different colors.

3. Use “transition moldings” to protect carpet edges where carpet meets other flooring.

4. After removing old cushioning, vacuum the sub floor to pick up any dust or allergens and to prepare the floor for new materials.

5. Spend extra time to trim and tuck excess carpet to the baseboard for a finished job.

6. Clean up the job site both during and upon completion, putting away all tools, scraps and waste.

7. Arrive on time, work all day and phone if an emergency occurs or, if for any reason, you must run late.

8. Be neat and courteous and respect the client and their family.

9. O’bryan always vacuums afterwards so any imperfections are uncovered before the job is called complete. Tony O’bryan says, “a beautiful new floor should be just that.”

Tony O’bryan learned early in his 30- year career how important attention to detail is. O’bryan’s has had success. He says, “The surest way to tell is by the number of referrals we get, because carpet and flooring are not things we buy like weekly groceries.”
