2012 May Friendship Day event set Friday

-

The goal of the 2012 May Friendship Day program, which is sponsored by Church Women United, is to allow women in the Garland County community the opportunity to recognize the diversity of women in this community. Women will share their experiences as they tell their stories, the stories of their ancestors and stories of biblical women that led them to dream, to plan and to move in their lives.

Church Women United is a racially, culturally, theologically inclusive Christian women’s movement that has a heritage of welcoming the stranger. This event will celebrate the unity women have in the midst of their diversity as they work together for a world of peace and justice. The theme will be, “Sights and Sound of Harmony: Listening to My Sisters.”

The Fellowship of the Least Coin is an important part of this program and taking time to remember and reflect on other sisters around the world gives a sense of how all are connected. By giving the least coin ( in America, the penny), all women can participate worldwide.

This year, the May Friendship Day Celebration will be at noon Friday at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church, 841 Quapaw Ave. Each person attending is asked to bring a vegetable, salad or dessert to share for the potluck lunch.

All women of Garland County are welcome and are encouraged to bring a friend.
