June library movies have Arkansas ties

The June Movie Event will be presented at the Garland County Library, 1427 Malvern Ave

Admission and popcorn are free and everyone can bring refreshmen­ts as new releases and classics are screened in the Gordonelle Williams Hall Auditorium.

The library will honor all guidelines put forth by the MPAA regarding movie ratings. Therefore, no one under 17 will be allowed to view Rrated movies without an adult. Identifica­tion will be required. The movie schedule is subject to change.

The movie schedule accompanie­s “Great Arkansas Read” summer reading program and all films are related to Arkansas in some way. • June 9 10 a. m. – Arkansas Documentar­y Day – Emmy Awardwinni­ng filmmaker Larry Foley presents a selection of documentar­ies, including “Sacred Spaces: The Architectu­re of Fay Jones,” “Sanatorium Hill,” “The Buffalo Flows,” “Bridge to War Eagle,” “Charles Banks Wilson: Portrait of an American Artist,” and previews of new work. • June 12 3 p. m. – “White Lightning,” 1973, Burt Reynolds is a moonshine runner, recently released from prison, who seeks revenge on the crooked sheriff responsibl­e for the death of his brother. Set in fictional Bogan County, Arkansas, it was shot in several locations throughout the central part of the state and includes recognizab­le landmarks in Benton. Rated PG for adult content. • June 13 Noon – “Disfarmer: Portraits from a Lifetime,” an exhibition of vintage prints that explores the life and work of Heber Springs photograph­er Mike Disfarmer, 1884- 1959. This intimate exhibition chronicles the full spectrum of his career, featuring studio portraits from three studio periods: Penrose and Meyer, The Meyer Studio, and the Disfarmer Studio. • June 23 11 a. m. – “Paradise Lost,” 1996, a horrific triple child murder leads to an indictment and trial of three nonconform­ist boys based on questionab­le evidence. The film will be followed by a presentati­on by Mara Leveritt, author of “Devil’s Knot: The True Story of the West Memphis Three.”
