Man arrested for alleged theft of jet ski trailer

A local man was arrested Thursday afternoon after allegedly stealing a jet ski trailer because the owner spotted him pulling away.

Horace Jewel Goodwin, 59, who lists an address of 209 Marguerite Drive, was taken into custody around 3 p. m. and charged with theft by receiving and theft of property, both misdemeanors punishable by up to one year in jail and a $ 1,000 fine.

He was still being held Friday in lieu of $ 2,000 bond and is set to appear June 26 in Garland County District Court.

According to reports, a local woman, 47, who lives on Long Island Drive, saw a white mini- van leaving her yard pulling her single- axle jet ski trailer and called the Garland County Sheriff’s Department.

Dispatchers told deputies to be on the lookout for the suspect vehicle, which was spotted a short time later by GCSD Deputy Robert Hotho headed north on Central Avenue.

He stopped the vehicle in the parking lot of Hot Springs Mall, 4501 Central Ave., and detained the driver, identified as Goodwin, until the victim could be brought to the scene where she identified the van and her trailer.

It was soon determined the license plate on the van had been reported stolen earlier in Hot Springs, resulting in the second theft charge.

• A Royal man arrested because of unpaid child support was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after being searched Thursday night.

Dennis Edward Johnson, 41, of 130 Suzanne Circle, was taken into custody at his residence shortly after 7 p. m. on a contempt of court warrant for $ 11,270 in back child support and taken to the Garland County Detention Center.

He was searched and deputies located a glass pipe with white residue in his front pocket, resulting in the possession charge, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.

He was still being held Friday in lieu of $ 12,000 bond and is set to appear June 26 in district court.
