Exhibit reveals the art of fiber
ARKADELPHIA – Yarn and natural fibers are the heart of the current exhibit at the Arkadelphia Arts Center, 625 Main St.
The arts center is open to the public with free admission and its summer hours are from 10 a. m. to 5 p. m. WednesdaySaturday. “The Art of Fiber” is showing through July 7.
The show includes art made from natural fibers such as hand- knitted handspun shawls, knitted scarfs, vintage weavings, and silk and woolfelted scarfs.
Fibers from animals and plants are exhibited.
Visitors are encouraged to touch and feel the differences in texture between the fibers on display such as Rambouillet sheep wool, llama, alpaca, bamboo, and Cashmere goat.
“Children of all ages will have hands- on experience with these textures and will see what the animals look like from the photographs of the animals and plants represented,” says Farrell Ford, acting executive director of the Clark County Arts and Humanities Council, the nonprofit group running the center.
There are original designs of hand- knitted angora, cotton, mohair, and silk doll clothing, jewelry from textiles, and a necklace using cat hair.
Also showing are vintage cotton and linen items with embroidery and an antique dresser cloth with a hairpin lace, Temari balls with geometric designs using embroidery thread, and more.
