Lakeside wins on Derosier’s double

NETTLETON — Logan DeRosier’s tworun double in the sixth inning gave Lakeside an 8- 7 win over Paragould Friday night in the first round of the American Legion baseball Ray King Classic.

Garrett Garner pitched a scoreless seventh, sending the Class AA Rams ( 7- 2) into a Saturday night game against Jonesboro ( AAA). Garner ( 3- 0) got the win, allowing three runs in two innings after relieving DeRosier ( five innings, four runs, seven strikeouts).

DeRosier also tripled, and went 3- for- 4 with four runs batted in. His go- ahead hit came after Paragould scored four times in the top of the sixth for a 7- 6 lead.

Lakeside’s Marcus Fisher went 2- for- 2, and Jacob Bradshaw 1- for- 2 with a walk and two runs scored. closing the NCAA Outdoor Championsh­ips in eighth- place.

The Razorbacks’ 4x100 team of Caleb Cross, Akheem Gauntlett, Neil Braddy and Marek Niit finished in 39.73. The performanc­e marked the Razorbacks’ first national score in the event since 1994, when the quartet of Jimmy French, Vincent Henderson, Chris Phillips and Derrick Thompson posted a fifth- place finish.

Phillips posted a time of 3: 44.77 in his first NCAA event final . Places four through seven were separated by just .30 seconds. Phillips’ time was the fifth fastest of his career. Arkansas’ 4x400 quartet of Braddy, Gauntlett, Niit and Ben Skidmore ran a 3: 03.90.

Arkansas’ 4x400- meter relay women’s team placed fourth Saturday, the Razorbacks finishing the tied for 24th place in the overall standings with 13 points.

Whitney Jones, Gwendolyn Flowers, Chrishuna Williams and Regina George ran the 4x400 in 3: 29.96, their second fastest of the season. The Razorbacks qualified for the championsh­ip race with a time of 3: 29.56 in Thursday’s semifinal.
