Band ready for Joy of Jazz

-

The Anything That Moves band, directed by pianist- arranger Clyde Pound, will provide danceable music with vocals featuring Fedette Johnson, David Higginbotham and Shirley Chauvin at The Hot Springs Jazz Society’s fifth annual fundraiser Joy of Jazz.

The event at 6: 30 p. m. on June 30 will take place at the “Screen in the Springs” Theatre in the Arlington Resort Hotel & Spa’s Conference Center, 239 Central Ave.

Pound, HSJS president, produces the annual JazzFest. His ATM band has performed on stages across the United States.

Chauvin, Jazz Society founder and vice president, leads her combo S’Wonderful at many venues in Arkansas.

Higginbotham teaches music in the Little Rock School District and performs on upright bass and vocals with The Bob Boyd Sounds.

Johnson has been a perennial favorite in the central Arkansas area and delivers, in a rich contralto, an exciting rendition on either jazz or blues vocalizing.

This year’s theme, “Saturday Night at the Movies,” will focus on danceable music from the silver screen, including the following: “Moon River” from “Breakfast At Tiffany’s,” 1961, “Nobody Does It Better” from the James Bond film “The Spy Who Loved Me,” 1977, “Rock Around The Clock” from “Blackboard Jungle,” 1955, “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head” from “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” 1969, “New York, New York” from the 1977 musical- drama film of the same name, “At Last” from “Orchestra Wives,” 1942, “Night And Day” from “The Gay Divorcee,” 1934, “Soul Man” from “Blues Brothers,” 1980, and “Wind Beneath My Wings” from “Beaches,” 1982.

Dressy casual attire, appropriate for dinner and a movie, sporting a movie look, or arriving as one’s favorite movie star will be fitting for the event.

In addition to the music, ambiance and dancing, there will be a large silent auction of items and events offered.

The fundraiser makes the free Jazz in the Streets event held on the Saturday during JazzFest and the Jazz Camp Scholarship program possible.

Complementary heavy hors d’oeuvres will be provided. Cash bars will be available.

Tables of 10 for $ 600 will have priority seating. Individual tickets are $ 60.

Call Gretchen Taylor at 6272425 for information, or send a check and guest list to HSJS, P. O. Box 22662, Hot Springs, AR 71903.
