GC EHC holds Spring Council Meeting

-

Members of Garland County Extension Homemakers Council recently met in the EHC Educational Building at Garland County Fairgrounds for a special Spring Council Meeting. The meeting celebrated the 100 years of extension work in Arkansas and 99 years in Garland County. The theme of the program was, “A Rose By Any Other Name ...,” in reference to the fact that even though the name of the organization has changed over the years, the focus has continued to be on family and community education. A slide show prepared by Janie Woods showcased extension agents and homemakers in Garland County through the years.

One highlight of the meeting was a the presentation of a proclamation by County Judge Rick Davis that May 2012 be recognized as Extension Homemakers Month in Garland County along with the other 73 counties in the state.

The meeting served as a farewell gathering for Lisa Washburn, Family and Consumer Science agent with the Cooperative Extension Service, who recently received her Doc- torate of Public Heath from UAMS, and has accepted a job in the state extension office as an assistant professor – health specialist. She will oversee health programs for the whole state and provide support for county agents in developing and conducting health programs. Joan Rich, Garland County EHC president, presented Washburn with a handpainted parting gift from the council.
