HSV rallies past Bryant, 10- 8 on road

BRYANT — Dillan Brown drove in three runs, and Hunter Mayfield had a go- ahead single in the seventh inning as Hot Springs Village pulled out a 10- 8 American Legion Class AA win over host Bryant Wednesday night.

Bryant led 7- 6 into the seventh, when HSV ( 2- 12) pulled even on Justin Gunnoe’s runscoring single. Mayfield’s hit came after Brittan McDaniel was walked intentiona­lly, and Tyler Robertson’s two- run single made it 10- 7.

Michael Mendez, who singled ahead of Gunnoe’s hit, pitched the last 2 2- 3 innings for the win, allowing two earned runs and striking out three. Gunnoe started, allowing two runs in 2 1- 3 innings, and McDaniel gave up four runs ( two earned) in two innings.

Brown, a 2011 Mountain Pine graduate who played this spring at Lyon College, had a sacrifice fly in HSV’s two- run first and a two- run double in a game- tying four- run sixth. Kody Daily and McDaniel had RBI singles in the first and sixth, respective­ly.

HSV plays Jacksonvil­le today at 5 p. m. in the pool- play Sheridan Wood Bat Tournament. It faces Texarkana, Texas and Sheridan at 3 and 8 p. m. Saturday.

Bryant won Wednesday’s Junior game 5- 2. Robertson ( 2 1- 3 innings, two earned runs) taking the loss. Andrew Barber, in his first game of the season after an injury, went 1- for- 3 with a double and Dylan Anderson 1- for- 3 for HSV, which played Thursday night at Lakeside.
