Debut solo CD gains attention

-

It’s been a banner year for acclaimed classical pianist Elizabeth Moak, a native Southerner, with the release of her debut solo CD “Art Fire Soul,” featuring the piano works of internationally recognized composer Judith Lang Zaimont.

Moak and Zaimont are not strangers to Arkansas, according to a press release.

Moak traveled last summer to the Natural State to visit her life- long mentor, pianist- composer Raymond K. Liebau, who for several years has lived on Lake Catherine with his wife Ruth, a singer in her own right.

“It was a special treat to discover this beautiful area of the country and to hear the Liebaus, along with Ken Goodman, perform at Hot Springs’ Vienna Theatre, which is a gem of a place. ‘ The hills are alive with the sound of music’ took on a whole new meaning for me. And to see a silent movie and hear it accompanied with live improvised music by Mr. Liebau is a true delight; it is a talent that amazes me to no end,” Moak said.

Additionally, the second CD of “Art Fire Soul” was recorded at the University of Central Arkansas. Zaimont’s “In the Theatre of the Night” for voice and piano also had its first performance at UCA.

Composer Zaimont has written more than 100 works, many of which have been performed in major halls by world- class performers Olga Kern, Van Cliburn Competition gold- medalist; the Philadelphia Orchestra, and recorded by labels such as Naxos and Harmonia Munda.

Born and raised in Oxford, Miss., Moak made her debut at age 16 with the Mississippi Symphony and was awarded a Van Cliburn Scholarship to attend one of the most prestigious summer music programs for youth, Interlochen Summer Arts Camp. Her precollege teachers include local pianist- composer Liebau.
