Country music rings true for singer’s first album

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

Shelby Kirk, 20, of Hot Springs loves music, especially country music and everything it stands for.

Her latest album contains a wide range of music from heartbreak to new love and is full of the emotion, sass and inspiration that bring true meaning to country music.

“I am pretty ecstatic to see how well it has done,” Kirk said.

“I am going to be a junior in college this coming fall and I am set on majoring in music production. I would love to develop a career in music whether it be singing or behind the music. Music is my passion and I hope that I can continue to pursue a career in the U. S.,” she said.

Some of the songs on her first album, “Shelby Kirk,” have been successful in areas overseas and in Belgium radio markets making it to the Top 10 requests.

Ever since she was a child, music has inspired her and at about age 6, she began to sing at her church in Bismarck which gave her experience and appreciation of performing in front of an audience, according to album notes.

“I have always been interested in music. When I was old enough to talk, I was singing,” Kirk said.

A graduate of Magnet Cove High School, she also sang in her high school choir.

Her family encouraged her to sing and to work hard.

“My family is very supportive and they love to be surrounded by music,” she said.

When her grandparents, Clarence and Corene Schwab, started AhHa Music Group, she was 18 and was given the opportunity to make a Christmas album with her younger cousin.

“We had a great time and learned a lot about the studio. They had faith in me to make my first album and they have helped me tremendously. Making e my first album was a dream come true and an amazing experience. I am so blessed to have come this far and I am excited to see what the future holds,” she said.
