Blind, but not forgotten

Imagine being blind, giving birth to two beautiful babies, and then being thrown into some stranger’s yard, discarded like yesterday’s trash. Imagine lying there, unable to see, trying to take care of the babies while all three of you are getting sick. And then imagine being taken away and brought to a place with caring individual­s who carefully nourish you and your babies back to health.

That is what happened to Shelby and her kittens. The place is called the Guardian Angels Cat Rescue and Adoption Shelter, and the people there truly are angels.

Shelby, even though she was blind, took remarkable care of her kittens. She showered them with a mother’s love and devoted every minute of the day to their care. Eventually, the kittens became old enough to be adopted out to good homes. Because of her condition, Shelby could not be placed in the big rooms with the other cats. She lived in a small area and it was clear that she was lonely and missing her babies. And then along came another angel — Frankie.

Frankie’s heart went out to the little blind cat and she thought that perhaps her home would be the perfect place for Shelby. She had a 7- year- old cat, Mango, at home and a big blue heeler named Baby with a gentle heart. Because Baby loved to eat cat food ( why do dogs love cat food?), Frankie had a baby gate placed across the doorway to keep him out. Mango could go in and out, but the cat food remained
