Dreams of the Heartland’s sixth pilgrimage to Philander Smith
Dreams of the Heartland Foundation Inc. recently made its sixth presentation scholarship award to Michael Davis, a sophomore at Philander Smith College.
Also present were two seniors, Tatiana Robinson and Theresa Webb, graduating from PSC this year.
Robinson received the scholarship all four years of her college career and Webb received it the past two years. Both had their music recitals in April, climaxing their four years at PSC.
Petrella, the foundation’s founder and president, Bob Pollefeyt, administrator, and William McCraw, treasurer, were all on hand at Philander Smith to make this year’s scholarship presentation to Timothy Tucker, chairman of the music department.
Yvonne Alexander, of Alumni Affairs, welcomed Dreams of the Heartland and made sure that the recipients and other representatives of PSC were available to spend time talking and exchanging ideas with Petrella and DOH representatives.
Dreams of the Heartland Foundation Inc. was launched in 1996, and for the past 17 years has worked beside individuals, boards and organizations in Hot Springs in raising awareness of local charities and for the past six years at Philander Smith College’s Music Department.
Dreams of the Heartland’s donations and promotional activities have exceeded $ 50,000 from public contributions, proceeds from the sales of Petrella’s CD and a portion of her performance fees.
According to a news release, Petrella loves this part of her job and says “it’s simply doing unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
