Lynn wins 11th, Cardinals beat Marlins, 3- 2

ST. LOUIS — Lance Lynn outpitched Marlins All- Star Jose Fernandez for his 11th win and Matt Holliday homered for the St. Louis Cardinals in a 3- 2 victory that wrapped up a threegame sweep Sunday.

Lynn ( 11- 3) worked seven strong innings in 87- degree heat and matched All- Star Adam Wainwright for the team lead in wins, bouncing back from losses in consecutiv­e starts for the first time in his career. He struck out seven, fanning Giancarlo Stanton all three times, and has reached 11 wins prior to the break both of his years in the rotation.

The 20- year- old Fernandez ( 5- 5) worked six innings a day after getting the nod as the Marlins’ lone All- Star and gave up three runs on four hits and a season- high four walks. He hadn’t allowed more than two earned runs in his previous six outings.

Cubs 4, Pirates 3, 11 innings

CHICAGO — Pinch hitter Dioner Navarro had a gameending sacrifice fly in the 11th inning, lifting the Chicago Cubs to a 4- 3 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday.

Anthony Rizzo sparked the winning rally with a leadoff single. He advanced on Alfonso Soriano’s single and went to third when Pirates catcher Russell Martin threw the ball into center field while trying to pick Rizzo off second.

Luis Valbuena was walked intentiona­lly before Navarro’s fly ball to right off Bryan Morris

( 4- 3) gave the Cubs their seventh win in the last 11 games.

Matt Guerrier ( 3- 4) pitched two scoreless innings for the win.

Phillies 7, Braves 3

PHILADELPH­IA — Freshly chosen All- Star Domonic Brown homered, tripled and drove in two runs Sunday, leading the Philadelph­ia Phillies over the Atlanta Braves 7- 3.

Ben Revere hit a two- run triple for Philadelph­ia, which took two of three from the NL East- leading Braves.

Chris Johnson homered and Brian McCann got three hits for Atlanta, which has lost 10 of its last 15 road games. McCann finished 9 for 12 in the series and is batting .512 ( 22 for 43) over his last 11 games.

Jonathan Pettibone ( 5- 3) allowed one run on five hits in 5 1- 3 innings while tying his career high with six strikeouts against one walk. The Phillies used five relief pitchers on a hot day that began with a gametime temperatur­e of 95 degrees.

Kris Medlen ( 6- 8) gave up a season- high six earned runs in 5 1- 3 innings.

Nationals 11, Padres 7

WASHINGTON — Ryan Zimmerman hit a grand slam, Bryce Harper added three hits and two stolen bases, and the Washington Nationals sent the San Diego Padres to their ninth straight loss, 11- 7 on Sunday.

Stephen Strasburg ( 5- 6) allowed four runs over six innings. He matched his seasonhigh with nine strikeouts as the Nationals won their fourth straight, the last three over San Diego.

Zimmerman’s slam off Robbie Erlin ( 1- 2) put Washington ahead 5- 1 in the third inning. Two batters later, Anthony Rendon hit a two- run homer.

Rendon and Strasburg had RBI singles during the Nationals’ four- run fifth inning. Harper, chosen a day earlier for the NL All- Star team, hit an RBI single in the first.

The Nationals are four games over .500 for the first time since April 12. San Diego lost the final nine times on its 10- game road trip.

Mets 2, Brewers 1

MILWAUKEE — Jeremy Hefner allowed one run on two hits over seven innings and the New York Mets turned two throwing errors by Milwaukee third baseman Juan Francisco into a pair of unearned runs and a 2- 1 victory over the Brewers on Sunday.

Josh Satin had two doubles and a single for the Mets, scoring one run and driving in the other to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

Hefner ( 4- 6) gave up one hit through six innings before Jonathan Lucroy led off the seventh with his 10th home run.

Bobby Parnell, who came on with a runner on first and two outs in the eighth, finished for his 15th save.

Milwaukee starter Tom Gorzelanny ( 1- 2) allowed two unearned runs on eight hits in six innings, striking out a seasonhigh eight.

Diamondbac­ks 6, Rockies 1

PHOENIX — Patrick Corbin gave up three hits in eight innings to finally get his 10th victory and the Arizona Diamondbac­ks beat Colorado 6- 1 Sunday for their fifth straight win and a dominant three- game sweep of the Rockies.

Corbin ( 10- 1) struck out 10 in his seventh attempt at win No. 10. The 23- year- old left- hander, picked a day earlier for the All- Star team, also hit an RBI double as the Diamondbac­ks outscored the Rockies 22- 2 in the series.

The Rockies lost more than the game. Star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez injured a finger on his right hand swinging at a pitch and left the game in the ninth. Starter Roy Oswalt ( 0- 4) exited with a strained left hamstring in the second.

Jonathan Herrera broke up the shutout with a home run in the eighth.

Dodgers 4, Giants 1

SAN FRANCISCO — A. J. Ellis hit a three- run double in the ninth inning, All- Star Clayton Kershaw had a third straight stellar start and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the slumping San Francisco Giants 4- 1 on Sunday.

Kershaw ( 8- 5), a candidate to start the All- Star game for the National League, wasn’t as sharp as he’d been in his previous two starts but still only allowed one run over eight innings. He helped the Dodgers move into second place in the West heading into a three- game series with division- leading Arizona.
