Swanson makes Rimington trophy watch list again

- NATE ALLEN

FAYETTEVILLE — To no one's surprise, Arkansas senior center Travis Swanson was named to the Rimington Trophy watch list Tuesday for the third consecutive year.

The Rimington Trophy, presented in offseason, annually goes to the nation's outstanding center.

Starting every Arkansas game since his redshirt freshman season of 2010, Swanson last season was voted secondteam all- Southeastern Conference behind Alabama graduate Barrett Jones, the 2011 Rimington winner and 2012 Outland Trophy winner.

So far this preseason Swanson has been consensus firstteam all- SEC on teams released by variously publications going into next week's vote of SEC media at Media Days in Hoover, Ala.

The Rimington, named for former Nebraska Outland Trophy wining center Dave Rimington, was won in 2007

by Arkansas' Jonathan Luigs, who cleared paths for two- time Doak Walker Award- winning running back Darren McFadden and fellow All- American running back/ kick returner Felix Jones.

On Monday, Arkansas senior defensive end Chris Smith was named to the watch list of the Bednarik Award voted postseason annually to the nation's best defensive player.
