Daffodil Days returns in March

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

The 26th annual Daffodil Days, a fundraiser for the Garland County American Cancer Society sponsored by National Park Medical Center, will be held from March 11- 15.

All proceeds from Daffodil Days directly benefit the American Cancer Society, for research and education, along with support for those living with cancer, a news release said.

“The daffodil is the first flower of spring and therefore has become the so- called ‘ flower of Hope,’” said Pat Herrin, NPMC’s director of medical imaging and Daffodil Days co- chairwoman.

“It’s a beautiful symbol for the cause of cancer research, education, programming and awareness,” Herrin said.

Orders of 50 or more daffodils will be delivered throughout the Hot Springs area on March 11. Smaller orders may be picked up that day from NPMC’s Maurice Room from 8- 10 a. m.

Volunteers will also be on hand selling daffodil bouquets for $ 3, boutonnieres for $ 1 and leis for $ 5 at Oaklawn Park on March 15, which will also feature the annual Daffodil Days Classic Race. Daffodils will be sold beginning at 10 a. m., while supplies last.

Order forms, which accompany this article, are available by calling 620- 2705 or visiting http:// www. national park medical. com.

“Daffodil Days has become a tradition for all parties involved — the Hot Springs community, area businesses, the American Cancer Society, NPMC and Oaklawn Park,” the release said.

“Daffodil Days is also seen as a kick- off to another great season of fundraising for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event,” which begins May 30 at Oaklawn Park in the infield, the release said.

“Many businesses and community members proudly display their daffodils to show their support for the ACS, and many others send them to cancer survivors, caregivers, and others that they love,” the release said.

“One of the most heart- warming things we see is when businesses purchase the daffodils to be delivered to area nursing homes,” Herrin said.

“I am so proud of the way that our co- workers come together to make this event happen every year,” she said.

“Our employees and volunteers stay late and work extra during the entire week of Daffodil Days to cut the daffodils, make the bouquets, leis and boutonnieres, make the deliveries around town and volunteer at the track. It’s such a worthwhile event, and it is so encouraging to see the way that the Hot Springs community comes together in the fight against cancer,” Herrin said.

Daffodils can be ordered in bouquets as small as 10 flowers for $ 15, or as large as 500 flowers for $ 200. Orders of 50 flowers or more are delivered complimentary to Hot Springs and surrounding areas.
