Countdown to Mardi Gras Costume Ball

-

The 2014 Queen of the Jazz Society Mardi Gras Costume Ball, Sharon Turrentine, is celebrating the upcoming fundraising event with Queen Stacy Hudgens of the 2013 Mardi Gras Costume Ball.

Turrentine is a former Mardi Gras Queen of the Monroe, La., Mardi Gras.

She has recently returned from a luncheon of all the former queens of the Monroe event. They meet once a year during the Monroe Mardi Gras. Turrentine has received permission from the Monroe Chapter, Royal Order of Old Queens, to organize a chapter for the Hot Springs Jazz Society’s Mardi Gras Costume Ball Queens.

This, of course, will be an exclusive group of women, allowing only an addition of one per year. Monroe has 44 past queens. This will be a charitable chapter with the queen’s mission to raise the awareness of the Hot Springs Jazz Society Mardi Gras Costume Ball, and to offer educational information to the area schools about this annual celebration, which is offered in many locations throughout the United States.

Turrentine is chairwomen of Louisiana Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. As a past body builder she continues to promote healthy life styles in the Louisiana schools.

The Mardi Gras Costume Ball is the only fundraising event presented by the Hot Springs Jazz Society.

It takes place from 6- 11: 30 p. m. Feb. 22 at the Austin Convention Hotel & Spa.

Proceeds from the evening will go toward the society’s educational programming and the free, outdoor concert during the annual JazzFest in September.

Call 627- 2425 for tickets or for more information.
