Suspects held for allegedly robbing, beating homeless man

- STEVEN MROSS

Hot Springs police arrested two suspects Wednesday in connection with the robbery of a homeless man last week who was allegedly beaten with a baseball bat.

Andrew Lamont Millsap, 29, who lists an address of 111 Leonard St., Apt. 4, and Tyshawn Dewond Anderson, 23, who lists an address of 216 Wood St., were both charged with aggravated robbery, a felony punishable by up to life in prison.

According to the affidavit, on Oct. 22, shortly after 7:30 p.m., HSPD officers responded to the 400 block of Broadway Avenue regarding a battery and upon arrival made contact with the victim, 52, who stated two black males he knew as “Drew” and “Tashion” had just beaten him up with a baseball bat.

The officers noted the victim had numerous injuries to his face and head including one laceration that required stitches.

The next day, detectives were following up with the victim who told them he was homeless and that the suspects had also stolen his cellphone and gone through his pockets following the attack.

The victim said he thought both of the suspects were also homeless, because he had previous problems with them “on the streets.”

On Monday, HSPD Detective Lampinen picked up the victim and drove him around to different areas in the city known to assist homeless people, and as they drove past a gas station often frequented by homeless people the victim allegedly spotted the suspects who attacked him standing together.

The victim told Lampinen he was positive the two men were the ones who attacked him and took his cellphone.

Other officers made contact with the suspects at the scene and identified them as Anderson and Millsap. It was determined Anderson had warrants for third-degree domestic battery and failure to appear, so he was taken into custody at that time on those charges.

Anderson had remained in custody in lieu of $3,500 bond since Monday and was charged with the aggravated robbery count Wednesday. Millsap was taken into custody on the same charge around 1: 30 p.m. Wednesday and both men were still being held without bond Thursday. They are set to appear Nov. 18 in Garland County District Court.
