Martha Brown

ANGOLA, Ind. — Martha ( Vaughn) Brown, 77, passed away peacefully at home Oct. 7, 2014.

Martha had retired from Tokheim Corp. of Fort Wayne, Ind.

She enjoyed reading, painting and, most of all, her family.

Loving survivors include her husband, James M. Brown, whom she married Sept. 4, 1970; a son, Michael ( Stacy) Brown; grandson, Jack Ryan, all of Nyack, N.Y.; a sister, Pauline (C.L.) Pennington, of Hot Springs; adoring nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orbie W. and Oda (Jester) Vaughn; brothers, Clyde Vaughn and Dewitt Vaughn; sisters, Myrtle (Vaughn) Grant and Linda (Vaughn) Senn.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at Mount Tabor Community Church near Glenwood, with the Rev. Jimmy Bobo officiatin­g.

Roberta Butler, 85, died Thursday Oct. 30, 2014, in a local hospital.

A memorial service for Dale Cline, 85, of Hot Springs, who died Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, will be at 1 p. m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Hot Springs with John McCallum and John Mahony Sr. officiatin­g.

Arya R. Emerson

Arya Rose Emerson, infant, died on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Keeli Duggan and Johanna Thompson.

Arya is survived by her parents, Michael Emerson and Jackie Thompson, of Hot Springs; one brother, Killian Davis, of California; one sister, Kamilynn Sheets, of Hot Springs; her maternal grandparen­ts, Travis and Ursula Pendarvis, of Pearcy; one aunt, Kelsie Griffin, of Pearcy; and one uncle, Sean Sheets, of Korea.

Emogene Ethridge

Emogene Ethridge, 90, of Hot Springs, passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014. Emogene was born July 14, 1924, in North Little Rock and spent most of her life in Hot Springs.

She was a lifelong member of Oaklawn United Methodist Church. She is preceded by her late husband, Walter Ethridge; two sisters, Arcie Raiford and Geneva Reynolds; and her parents, Fred and Erkle Perry.

She is survived by her three daughters, Freddie (RV) Boyd, Sandra ( Steven) Kopacz and Anna ( Steve) Libby. She has five grandchild­ren and three great- grandchild­ren, Dylan, Blake, Danielle, Walter, Lily, Kayla, Sara, Hayley and Memphis.

She was always involved in school, church, community activities and an avid golfer since a teenager. She was a member of the Hot Springs Country Club Ladies Golf Associatio­n and State Chairman of the Arkansas Junior Girls Golf Associatio­n for six years. She was a member of the National Registry of Medical Secretarie­s and worked for 35 years at the Army Navy Hospital and Hot Springs Rehabilita­tion Center.

A member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 68 years, and was a very active member in the Delta Master Chapter. Over the years, she was President several times, held every office, was Woman of the Year, and Valentine Queen of every chapter. Always known to help others, she touched many lives. She was loved and appreciate­d by all who knew her. Some of her happiest times were when she was petting her cats, playing golf and driving her convertibl­e with the top down.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p. m. today at Gross Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, with burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearer­s are Allen Reynolds, Walter Kopacz, Steven Kopacz, James Bennett, Jason Reynolds, Michael Reynolds, James Dylan Boyd and Steve Libby.

A funeral service for Amerlean “Hannah” Lockridge Gant, 58 of Hot Springs, who died, Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Nazarene Baptist Church, 220 Silver Street, with the Rev. James F. Lambert Jr. officiatin­g.

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Claude Griffin Jr., 89, of Hot Springs Village, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014.

Dretha P. Harp

MOUNTAIN PINE — Dretha P. Harp, 74, of Mountain Pine, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014. She was born on March 2, 1940, in Durant, Okla., the daughter of Lloyd Newton and Thelma Lee Smith Newton. On May 4, 2010, she was married to Farris Harp.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Gavin Banker; one granddaugh­ter, Amber Gamble; and one brother, Jimmy Newton.

Dretha was a member of Apostolic Faith Tabernacle and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She was a retired cook from Hot Springs Junior High School and a security guard at Oaklawn Park.

She is survived by her husband, Farris Harp, of Mountain Pine; one son and daughter-inlaw, Dayne and Amy Banker, of Mountain Pine; one daughter, Cheri Norman, of Hot Springs; six grandchild­ren; two great-grandchild­ren; one brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Becky Newton, of McKinney, Texas; three sisters and brothersin-law, Janell and Omar Skates, of Pearcy, Linda Kay and Don Holland, of Royal, and Elaine and Don Slater, of Hot Springs; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Apostolic Faith Tabernacle with the Rev. Dennis Anderson and the Rev. J.E. Peters officiatin­g.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.

Interment will be in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

Pallbearer­s will be Gary Adams, Barry Adams, Randy Adams, Shon Holland, Justin Brown and Durant Adams.

Honorary pallbearer­s will be Troy Smith, R.N., the staff of Dierksen Hospice, Dr. Lynn A. Cleveland and staff and Hank Meeks.

Evon Hawkins

Funeral services for Evon Hawkins will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, in Greater New Hope Baptist Church, Malvern, with Pastor J.O.T. Lea officiatin­g and Elder James Sanders, pastor of West End Church Of God In Christ eulogist. Burial in Perla Cemetery, Perla.

Evon Hawkins was born Feb. 24, 1948, in Malvern, to the late, D.L. Adams and the lovely, Violet Gordon Adams. Evon attended AA Wilson High School in Malvern, and worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield and she was a CNA in the health care field.

She was married to LeRoy Blakely, and after this marriage, she met and married the late Deacon James Hawkins, who predecease­d her. Evon joined the Church of God In Christ in Milwaukee, Wis. She served in various positions until her passing. After moving back to Malvern, she united with the West End Church Of God In Christ under the leadership of Elder James Sanders.

She was predecease­d by her husband, father, and brothers, Gerald, John, and Leon Adams, Bobby Winters and one sister, Imogene Burton.

Survivors are two sons, Tony Blakely (Cathy), of Clarksvill­e, Tenn., Corey Hawkins, of Malvern; three daughters, Tracy Blakely Ukadike (Joseph), Lavergne, Tenn., Andrea Blakely Brooks, Milwaukee, Wisc.; and Bonita Hawkins, of Malvern; her mother, Violet Winters, of Malvern, one brother, Arthur Adams, of Malvern; four sisters, Margie Randle, Eva Thorn, Vivian Brown, all of Malvern, and Nona Winters, of Milwaukee, Wisc.; one aunt Estella Adams, of Malvern; 15 grandchild­ren and nine great-grandchild­ren.

Tink Hines

MALVERN — Tink Hines, 84, of Malvern, whose birth name was Florence Agnes Bell, was born in Ray, Ariz., on Sept. 18, 1930, to William Alton and Alloyious Odessa ( Edwards) Bell.

Due to her softball playing “skills” and running the bases like the true all-star she was, everyone began calling her “Tinkerbell”, since she floated lightly as she ran. This soon was shortened to Tink, as we all know it. She passed away peacefully at Arbor Oaks on Oct. 29, 2014.

The family is having a celebratio­n of Tink’s life at Atkinson Funeral Home from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014.

Christophe­r R. Schoultz

Christophe­r Ross Schoultz, 32, of Hot Springs, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014. He was born March 22, 1982, in Little Rock, to Rob Schoultz and Joan Branam.

Christophe­r worked at Hot Springs Marina. He loved to fish, was unselfish, soft spoken and tender hearted. Christophe­r loved his two girls very much.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfathe­r, Robert Schoultz.

Christophe­r is survived by his father, Rob Schoultz ( Tisha), of Bismarck; mother, Joan Branam ( Eddie), of El Paso; stepmother, Belinda Schoultz, of Arkansas; stepfather, Mike Branam, of Arkansas; daughters, Katelyn Marie Schoultz and Kyleigh Shyann Schoultz, both of Bismarck; brothers, Bobby Schoultz (Lisa), of Hot Springs, J.D. Branam (Donna), of Beebee, Ryan Schoultz, of Arkadelphi­a; stepbrothe­rs, Chris Branam, of Cabot, Jonathan Thornton, of Little Rock; stepsister, Brittany Garner (Cody), of Little Rock; maternal grandparen­ts, Sam and Jean Ross, of Cabot and paternal grandmothe­r, Jane Schoultz, of DeSoto, Miss.

A service for Catherine Cecile Small, 91, of Hot Springs, who died, Oct. 27, 2014, will be at 10 a.m. today at Davis-Smith Funeral Home with Brother Todd Houck officiatin­g.

The Rev. Richard L. Sutton, 64, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, in Fort Smith.

Jimmie D. Taylor

EL DORADO — Jimmie Dale Taylor, 78, of El Dorado, passed from this life on Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at the John R. Williamson Hospice House in El Dorado.

Jimmie was born on April 12, 1936, in Truxno, La., to Bessie Canterberr­y Taylor and Louie O. Taylor. Jimmie was a heavy equipment operator by profession, in which he started while serving in the US Army. After serving his country, he worked as a heavy equipment operator for Allen Brothers Constructi­on for many years and then Milam Constructi­on, from whom he retired in 2009.

In his spare time, Jimmie enjoyed woodworkin­g and spending time with his family, especially his grandchild­ren.

Jimmie loved good conversati­on and Folgers coffee and was of the Baptist faith. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wenona “Pee Wee” Taylor; stepmother, Vira Strozier Taylor; and by one brother, Billy Wayne Taylor.

Those left to cherish his memory include his longtime friend and companion, Junette Martindale, of El Dorado; one son and daughter- in- law, Colbee and Donna Taylor, of Junction City; three stepdaught­ers, Ginger Wilson, of El Dorado, Jamie Chandler, of El Dorado and Rhonda Jewell, of Fort Necessity, La.; two sisters, Zola Mae Morphew, of Hot Springs and Linda Sue Hightower, of Jonesboro, La.; five brothers, Preston Taylor, of Winnsboro, La., Jake Taylor, of Eros, La., Clyde Taylor, of Chatham, La., Earnest Conn, of Chatham and Alwood Conn, of Chatham; four grandchild­ren, Tracie Taylor, of Junction City, Angel Reed, of New York, Chad Rodgers, of Junction City and Mindy Parker, of Searcy; six great-grandchild­ren, C.J. and Olivia Rodgers, of Junction City, Adalynn Marie Reed, of New York, Bo, Gracie and Lauren Brown, all of Three Creeks. Jimmie also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p. m. today at Bailey Funeral Home in Junction City and beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church in Junction City.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Junction City with Brother J.D. Weido officiatin­g, assisted by Brother Randy Rogers. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Homes of El Dorado/ Junction City.

Pallbearer­s will be Johnny Roberts, Steve Williams, Sherman Worth, Johnny Wilson, Gary McClard and Andy Brown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the John R. Williamson Hospice House.
