Sikes crowned OBU homecoming queen

ARKADELPHI­A — Anna Sikes, a senior Christian studies/Biblical studies and Christian studies/Christian ministry double major from Greenbrier, was crowned Ouachita Baptist University’s 2014 Homecoming Queen during Ouachita’s pre- homecoming game ceremony Oct. 4.

Sikes and other members of the court were presented at Cliff Harris Stadium in front of more than 3,000 students and alumni in attendance for Ouachita’s Homecoming football victory over Southweste­rn Oklahoma State University.

Ouachita President Rex Horne and OBU’s 2013 Homecoming Queen, Kelsey Frink, crowned Sikes. The 2014 Homecoming Court includes Roxanne Easter, Hannah Pinkerton, Victoria Williams and Katie Theriot.

The 46 Homecoming Court nominees represente­d numerous campus clubs, academic department­s and organizati­ons at Ouachita. After the nominees were presented to the student body at the weekly chapel service, students were given the opportunit­y to vote for the court.

The results were announced at the Oct. 4 ceremony.

“It was a mixture of surprise and excitement when they called my name,” Sikes said. “Everyone has been so gracious to me, and I am so thankful!”

Sikes represente­d the Eta Alpha Omega men’s social club and was escorted by her father, Marty Sikes. She is a member of the Tri Chi women’s social club, the Ouachita Student Foundation and the Tiger Serve Day leadership team.

“I felt so honored to represent the men of Eta Alpha Omega. They are a genuine group of friends who are so fun and down to earth,” Sikes added. “Homecoming is very magical at Ouachita because it brings the whole campus together to celebrate the school we hold so dear. I love being a student at a place that becomes home.”

First runner- up was Roxanne Easter, a junior history and secondary education double major from Sheridan, representi­ng the junior class. Second runner-up was Hannah Pinkerton, a senior communicat­ion sciences and disorders and Spanish double major from Benton, representi­ng the Panhelleni­c Council.

Garland County students Abbey Little, Paige Onyuru and Allie Wade were among the other homecoming nominees.

Little is a sophomore mass communicat­ions and business administra­tion/marketing double major from Pearcy. She represente­d OBU Cheerleadi­ng.

Little is a member of the EEE women’s social club, the Ouachita Student Foundation and the Ouachitoni­an yearbook staff. She was escorted by her father, Jim Little.

Onyuru is a senior biology and chemistry double major from Hot Springs. She represente­d the Kappa Chi men’s social club.

Onyuru is involved in the EEE women’s social club, College Republican­s and Student Senate. She was escorted by her father, Eroi Onyuru.

Wade is a senior communicat­ion sciences and disorders major from Hot Springs. She represente­d the Speechies.

Wade is a member of the National Student Speech Language Hearing Associatio­n. She was escorted by her father, Clint Harris.
